Using A Full Fishing Gear Set When your Fishing is at lvl1?

I was wondering if this was a smart idea , my goal isnt to Catch fish though even though I would love to catch fish but my goal right now is to lvl up my fishing skill. Will I still lvl up normally with the fishing equipment still on?

I'm not a high level fisherman or anything, but I think that the gear would help you level up. Equipping the gear I think is similar to getting synthesis help from an NPC, in that it increases your liklihood to get a bite(?). Every bite you get is a chance that your level might go up(even if you don't catch a fish). So the best way to level up would probably be to equip the gear, and get advanced synthesis. Any high level fisherman that could verify this?

Yes, wearing full fishing gear at level 1 will help. When you slap on that gear, your fishing skill will "act" as if it were 5. So, when you attempt to catch a fish, there is a 'check' against your skill to see if you can pull it up. Instead of checking your "1" it will check a "5" and your chances of pulling up that fish increase. Good news is that when the other "check" for seeing if your fishing skill will rise, it will "check" against your "1" and not your "5."

So, as a quick example, if your skill was 9, you could still fish up Moat Carps for skill rises. Moats cap at 11. Even though your skill is that of a 13 (with gear), you will still get skillups as if you were a 9.
