I recently got into a heated debate with a member of my party over what is +2 and +1 armor. I said anything with a white outlining around it is a +1 armor, and anything with a blue outling around it is a +2 armor, and it does not matter if the item says if it is +1 or +2, it all depends on the outlining. I was wondering if I am right, or is the person, I debated with was right that it must state its +1 armor to be considered +1 armor.

you are correct white outline = +1 blue outline = +2 gold outline = +3 white is attained either by crafting an HQ (high quality) item (as opposed to the normal craft of that item). sometimes the title of the item is +1, and sometimes the title changes. white can allso be attained by using a craft to change one piece of equipment into another piece of equipment. blue is attained by using a craft to change one piece of equipment into another piece of equipment, but crafting the change as an HQ. blue is also attained by crafting an HQ that uses HQ items in the recepie also. gold is (as far as i know) only attained through high level alchemy for things like Ether +3 |
