Ok, I would like to play with my Son and have both of us online at the same time.

I have two computers and a router and all of that.

I just need to know do I need to buy Two copies of the Game? Will I have to pay double the cost of playing Month to Month?

If he already has a character created he has been playing will he be able to access that character or start a new one?

Two copies of game, two monthly fees needed I believe. So If he has been playing and you haven't, then you need to buy a copy for yourself and setup another account.

I have FFXI for both PS2 and PC. I found that if you are logged in on one and you log in on the other on the same account, the first one gets kicked off. This happens whether i go PS2 to PC, PC to PS2, or even PC to PC (desktop and laptop). Although you can have the same account on all machines only one of them can be logged in on that acount at once.

I know that. That is why I am trying to figure out what I need to do to let us both play at the same time. I have no problem buying another copy of the game and have two accounts. But we have both been using this one account and we want to be able to use the characters we have now.

naw to play again u gotta have another game and account. me and my bro went through this as well ME being the one to start over it sucks, but the benefit of it is whoever starts over doesnt have to worry stuff since they already have a char thats higher lvl. such as gear and gil.
