My Taru's name is Rewah, and I originally got it by using the random name generator and then taking a few letters of of it. I was fine with it until some people told me that Rewah is an Arabian girl's name. >< Because I'm a guy and I don't want anyone hitting on me or anything. . . . . . (it actually happened once)

My Hume's name is Ketsuyo, it's a name I've been using for a long time on a wide variety of things. The ironic thing is that the "Ketsu" portion can translate roughly when romanized into either excellence, or ass. I didn't realize this for 9 months (Sept 2000).

Well, since my usual name (Kyoushu) was taken, I went with the name of the Japanese rock god Kageyama Hironobu. Call me a loser or Japanophile or whatever, but it's my name, dammit. :D It's pretty fun, and I've met some nice Japanese people. I can hone my ugly, nasty Japanese skills and speak with them a little, but they also speak English. It's pretty cool. |

I skimmed through most of this and didn't see any one post this. In 'Vana'diel Tribune' issues 18-20, I believe, are the naming customs of the races of Vana'diel. I prefer in-character names, as I'm a bit of role-player. The names I realy hate are names that are just for the novelty of the word.

I chose this name because Ben Folds Five covered the song She Don't Use Jelly by The Flaming Lips (it's polka style the way bf5 did it and funny) and my friend who got me interested in playing FFXI and I were listening to the song a lot and so out of randomness I chose the name. No matter what people "think" it won't change the reason why I chose the name.. lol btw titrocker and rickjamesbiatch had to change their names... mine isn't a sexual reference.. just a mere song reference.. mm and also I am a girl.. no manthra here =P and married in RL and yes he plays | |

I started off as a Taru called Deathguise, which has been my alias for a while now. Then I deleted that character and made an Elvaan named Valheru, taken from the book Magician. Later I saw a Galka named Deathguise running around my server, hahaha. |

I used an Elvaan name generator I found online. It is my real name translated. My in-game name is Arsilias. I usually have troubles finding good names, but I really like Arsilias.

Originality can be hard to prove. After all, two people can come up with the same original idea independently. ![]() I have character names I thought were original or at least uncommon, then seen them pop up elsewhere. In fact, I seem to recall for some reason several of my original character names are coincidentally also the names of very minor characters in Pern novels. (Names I had before I ever read any Pern novels) Shortly after the movie Mulan came out I took some crap on a MUCK where I had characters named Kulan and Kushu, since people assumed I derived the names from that. (Nevermind that the characters were around on that MUCK over a year before the movie came out) Kirika, I discovered, is a fairly common anime name, though I'd never encountered it before when I first used it. (Note: Kushu is not original, just kinda connected because of that situation. That was actually an imported character, sort of. FF3a. I had to create the personality and background from very little info, since 10 of the 11 moogles in that game had no lines at all besides "Kupo.") |
