| Junior Member | Best server for a UK player
Hi all i'm just about to purchase FFXI for my PC and being in the uk i was just wondering there are any UK servers available for this yet? I'm guessing not from what i've read in the forum and as there is no release date yet for the game here in the UK. So failing that i was wondering which is the best server to join for myself. Obviously i'm looking for one with the best connection to the UK so an east coast server might be the best one. If anyone could point me in the right direction it'd be great |

All the servers are in Tokyo. There is no server which is closer to you and has a better ping. But on the other hand, Tokyo is as far from the UK as it is from the US, so your ping will be as good as for all the American players. Getting on a specific server is cumbersome. You have to create and delete your character over and over, until the random server selection lands you on the server of your choice. So the only valid reason for playing on a specific server is that friends of yours are already there. And in that case, ask them to buy a world pass for you. |

Hi. There is no "best" server as people are generally allocated randomly. If you want a busy server then there are a few of them around and people here will be able to tell you which are busy and which are not. As tobold said, the only reason you would want to join a specific server is if you had a friend who was already there or you simply must have a busy server.

Thanks for the info guys. But i've got another questiong for you ![]() You said that your randomly given a server to join, so i take it that its not like everquest *which i used to play ages ago* where you choose the server first ? If this is the case one of my friends wants to start the same time as me........does this mean that we'd both have to keep randomly selecting servers until we're both on the right one ? |

Thanks for that matey, better watch out i might take you up on that offer I hope they dont cost too much do they?Question 3 hehe sorry. If we create characters of two different races, do they start in their hometown or can you choose the city to start in. For examply in everquest if you created a dwarf and an ogre you both started on other sides of the world and was a pain to meet up for the first time. Is something similar in FF11? :spin: |

However if you start in the city that is native to your race you get a nice little starting ring to use, so don't be shocked if you both start in one city but only one of you gets a ring but the other doesn't.
