| Junior Member | Graphic Card Compatability (Geforce FX)
Ok, I've got the Play Online viewer working and registered and everything. However when I try to play, the screen goes black and gives me a message saying "My hardware is not compatable with TnL, Please check your computer Specifications match Final Fantsy XI" My computer Specs are above even the recomended specs on the box. I looked at Q&A and it told me that my graphics card (Geforce FX 128 bit) is not compatible (which is strange considering it says the FX series is recomended on the box) Anyway to skip the point...I can't play FFXI, and was wondering if there was any downloads or anything that can get me playing? Any help would much appreciated. |

What video card did you have before the FX card? It's possible the old driver is lingering around your system. I had a similar problem when I switched out my TNT2 card with a TI4200 without properly fixing the drivers. Yes they use the same basic driver, but it was causing problems anyway. |

Actually the FX series of geforce wont work. Get a geforce 4 or 5 non FX. This is discussed at the support thingy at the FFXI area in POL. If anyone else is using the FX series, then I have no idea why SE stated that it is compabitable with all geforce cards 4(64MB and up) except FX.

Actually, I use GForce FX 5200 Ultra which has worked without failure with FFXI since the day I installed it (Back in Nov.). The only small thing I've ever encountered was a problem with PoL loading up the basic screen which a quick reinstall of PoL fixed easy. If anything you should download and run a program called driver cleaner. Anytime you uninstall an old video card for an upgrade to a new one, you never always get rid of the old drivers. Running this program cleans your system of any old drivers (Run this before installing the new vid car after uninstalling the old one) that may remain. Also keep your drivers update. This is bit off topic, but I had a problem with Halo when I first installed it. Basically the framerate was crap! But I found there were new drivers for the FX and download/installed them, and Halo runs perfect now. So yeah, keep those things in mind. NVidia adverstises on the friggen game box so I doubt their cards Regardless of the set arent compatible. |

It wasn't an upgrade...it was built in. The computers brand new, but where can I get these Driver cleaners from?

| Junior Member | http://www.driverheaven.net/#article_9166 Scroll down and you will see the part about Driver Cleaner and link to download it. This is only useful if you plan on removing what drivers you have for your built in vid card and installing new ones or reinstalling what you currently have. It's very odd the Q&A said your Built in FX wont work. Mine works just fine. but maybe it's something do with the fact that your vid is a built in. Mine isn't  . So far the only thing I can suggest is maybe seeing if there are any updated drivers for your vid card. |

I have a GeForce FX 5600 128MB DDR video card and I've run FFXI with no problems at all. Aside from the slight laggyness it's perfectly fine, nothing wrong with the video card. (Pentium Celeron on a VERY old mother board that can only support x4 speed on the card while it's potintial can be x8) |

I'm not sure if its my Geforce FX running or not...I guess it should be as it was built in. Is there anyway of checking if I've got it enabled. Because its giving me troubles with Call Of Duty now too...apperntly my video card doesn't have something I need for it and I'm thinking its my Video card which is the problem now...

Its built by Mesh and I possitive its a Geforce FX which was built into the system. I'm pretty certain whats causing the problem, however I'm a little confused on how to fix it. Both Call Of Duty and FFXI told me I needed to uninstall my current Video Driver which is uncomatible (or not up to spec with both games) and downloaded a more updated version. Does anyone have a simple step by step walkthrough on how I can uninstall a driver completly and install a new one...without breaking the computer  and also a link to a up to date Driver which is compatible with Windows XP and FFXI (As well as Geforce FX)? |

First, in order to make sure you download the proper video drivers, open up the start menu and go to the run command. In that line type dxdiag and hit enter (or run) and it should pull up a Direct X Diagnostic of your computer's specs. Click on the display panel and it will tell you what type of video card your system is using. As for the drivers I went to the page and grabbed the link for you. GeForce Drivers Site. In order to uninstall the drivers go into [Start] -->Settings --->Control Panel and once there double click on the system icon. When that opens up click on the Hardware tab and then click on Device manager. When you get into there click Drop down Display Adapers and it will list what Video Controlls it sees on your system. Double click on the one in use (should only be on from your post) and click on the drivers tab. Below there is an option to uninstall the current drivers and there should also be a button to update drivers. Personally try the Update Drivers button to see if it finds anything new. If that doesn't work. Go the link I put in for you and find the right drivers for the card and download them. After than go back into the system menu and under your Video Adapter uninstall the drivers for it. Then run the install for the drivers you downloaded and follow the direction the setup has provided. I hope this helps some if not...it was worth a shot. |
