| Junior Member | Will this Computer work?
I'm going to order a new computer online and was wondering if this computer would work. Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition Processor: P4 2.6 Ghz Graphics Card: 128MB (NVIDIA) GeForce FX 5200 with TV-Out (What does this mean?) RAM: 512 DDR Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 Compatible If this does work, can someone give me a guess on the benchmark score? Will I lag or not? =) Thanks |

instead of giving you a benchmark score, you could just take the benchmark...

yeah, try the bechmark once u get that pc. :spin: but based on what others said, fx 5200 works slow on this game. ffxi isn't directx 9 compatible, and isn't taking full advantage of fx. but at least it works fine, so does that pc.

Hmm......in other posts, people said the the FX 5200 worked fine on their computer and they never lagged. I just don't wnat my computer to lag. Do you think with these specs that my comp will lag? Do you think I can play FFXI enjoyably? |

as far as the lag goes, i don't think u'll experience them because of the hardware; even w/ decent hardwares, u still have them due to the connection. and yes, they should be "fine." however, i don't know how it goes when all the options r set to max on fx 5200. i don't own this card so can't say specific things, but benchmark score for fx5200 owners has been reported to be around 2000-3000, on low res. personally, i'd recommend ati's 9600 or above, or nvidia's ti4x00 series. (or, if ur budget allows, fx 5700 or 5900. be advised that 5600 is slower than ti4200.) u should be able to find more on this topic in the computer forum. i've seen many there, and many recommendations and comments.

ATI has an overall better perfomance than nVidia with their actual GPU-series, and is cheaper as well, so I would recommend these, untill nVidia climbs from their throne that they've build with the GeForce 2 and 3 and gets back into building good GPUs. Btw., TV-Out does mean that you can connect a TV to the Graphicscard. That way you can watch all kinda videos and games on your TV. It works as a second monitor, put simple. A Radeon 9600 Pro is sold between $130-$150, features full DX9 support (nVidia's FX-Series does as well, but is incredibly slow if the vendor-specific features aren't used), and you should get about 3500 points with your system, so it should be lagfree. |

Thanks a lot guys. =) So my GeForce 5200 will definately work (meaning that I can actually play) with FFXI. Yes/No. Thanks =P If anyone else has responses on my GeForce 5200 or the ATI vs. NVIDIA battle, feel free to reply. =P |
