My char is a Level 11 Warrior and i spent yesterday evening in Palborough mines. Some rooms there are packed with mobs, and every time i ran up to whop one with my 2H Axe all his friends attacked me too and killed me quickly...
Is there a safe way to pull mobs single, like with a ranged weapon or spell?
My other question would be if there is a class that excels in pulling, like the monk in EQ.
Thanks in advance,
Beltram :-) | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 05:01 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2003 Posts: 238 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 827 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 827 Donate | Not really a safe way that I know of. It can be tricky. However, I can tell you one thing. Patience is a virtue. See if you can't wait for awhile until one of the monsters gets far enough away from the group that you can pull him without the others. That's probably the best way to do it. It takes some patience my friend.
As for your other question. Warrior is the ideal puller because of the provoke skill and high defence. As a rule of thumb, you should always try and have a warrior pull. I would assume at higher levels with advanced classes the puller would be the Paladin but i'm not that high to know how high level parties work. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 05:16 AM | #3 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Apr 2003 Posts: 739 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 870 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 870 Donate | I think Provike (at least at lower levels) generates too much hate. My friend and I tried it in Horutoto ruins, to separate some cardians....didn't work. I read somewhere else that by casting cure on a mob agros it, but I tried it, and they didn't seem bothered by it =P | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 05:18 AM | #4 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 2,984 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 22 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Gil: 1,468 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,468 Donate | You can typically use dia or provoke and pull back to a safe spot. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 05:20 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2003 Posts: 238 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 827 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 827 Donate | That's a possibility. I know that if a mage casts cure on the fighter with the most hate that the monster will aggro the mage. It's a pain the the behind. If you have a good group of warriors you can cooridinate the provokes so that the monster never comes within 10 feet of the mages. Take a time out and plan out some strategy with your party. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 05:28 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 291 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 333 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 333 Donate | | Quote: | Originally posted by Deedlit I think Provike (at least at lower levels) generates too much hate. If I, whm person, has to pull, I just use Dia. I wait for mobs to seperate also. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 05:44 AM | #7 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Apr 2003 Posts: 739 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 870 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 870 Donate | | Quote: | | I know that if a mage casts cure on the fighter with the most hate that the monster will aggro the mage. | It seems a bit more complicated than that - I can chain cast cure on a warrior, and as long ad he hits provoke every now and then, it's not bad. I rarely use Cure II at this point - not as mp efficient yet, and generates WAY more hate. | Quote: | | Cardians are so evil. They pwn beastmen. I never would have guessed that Provoke is a ranged ability that can be used for pulling, or splitting up groups of mobs.
Ill definately try it out this evening.

Provoke seems to pull others close enough buy more then shooting one with the ranged weapon. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 06:21 AM | #10 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Apr 2003 Posts: 739 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 870 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 870 Donate | The reason I think a warrior should use provoke is that I can start casting dia/slow/paralyze/banish on the mob without him even blinking at me. Heh, I love grouping with other WHM's, don't have to cure all the time =P | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-12-2003, 06:51 AM | #11 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Posts: 19 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 81 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 81 Donate | I think i get it now. Provoke can be used for pulling in groups, when i want to build sufficient aggro - so that the mob sticks to me, and doesnt jump any other party members once they start casting/attacking.
Ill keep that in mind for later levels, but ill get me a bow too to experiment a bit.
