As you can see here: http://www.ffxionline.com/modules.php?name=FAQ As you can see it is currently empty, please suggest questions to put in Faq. That way it is easier for me to compile the FAQ AND that will assure that it is a Frequently Asked Question. So please reply to this thread with questions and/or answers. Thanks!

Q: What is a MMORPG? A: MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. This means that you play alongside other "real" people in order to accomplish goals and gain levels. The vast majority of people in the game will be people just like you, however there are many Non Player Characters (NPCs) that are controlled by the system. Q: What do I need in order to play FFXI? A: Once it arrives in the US/Canada, you will need a PS2, the Network Adapter, the Hard Drive for the PS2, a USB compatable Keyboard, and optionally a USB compatable Mouse. There will also be a PC version released, the specs you need for the computer are as follows: Processor: Intel Pentium III, Pentium 4 recommended. Memory: 128MB RAM, 256MB recommended. Graphics: DirectX8.1 AGP compatible, Nvidia GeForce 3 recommended. Sound: DirectX8.1 compatible. CD-ROM: 4X or higher, 32X recommended. Modem: 56K. Operating System: Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP compatible. Q: What is a server, and what does it mean to "be on one"? A: A server is like your computer, but much much larger and more powerful (well at least for most of us), it is where all the game information is stored. Your character will be put on a server with many other characters, and you can only interact with characters that reside on the same server as yours. Q: What is this game going to cost me? A: It really depends. As of August 9, 2002, the day this was posted, the hard drive and game have yet to be released. However, most sources seem to think that the Hard Drive will cost around $100 US, the Network adapter is abuot $40 US, and the game probably around $60 US. The monthly cost to play will most likely be around $10, plus an additional $1 for every other character you create. We will know more closer to the release date. Q: When is FFXI going to be released? A: It has already been released in Japan, and many Americans have imported all the components needed to play on the Japanese servers. However, it is most likely to be released for the PS2 in the US/Canada sometime before Christmas. Tentative release dates have been anywhere from Feb 15/03 - March 04/03. Expect a release date to be revealed when Sony unveils the Hard Drive to the US.

There are 20 known servers so far, each of them named after a Final Fantasy summon. When you first log onto Final Fantasy XI, you will not be given the option to choose which server you will belong to. This will be very frustrating for those of you who have created clans already, 9 months before the game is even scheduled to come out. Don't get angry to quick now, there is a solution to this problem. Once you are in the game, you complete a certain quest, then you will have the option to buy a World Pass. The price of the pass will go higher depending on how many people are buying the pass. With this World Pass, you are giving a ten digit code to use. It lasts for 1 week and can be used for a total of 5 people. You can only choose your new server during the character creation process. Either you "buy" an additional character for an extra 75 cents per month, or you delete the one you currently have. Having the same nickname on two different servers is possible as long as someone else hasn't already chosen it first. I recommend talking with your friends or clan members and agreeing to which server to belong to, then have one or two people go for the World Pass. Then you and your friends or clan members can all use it together. Chocabos Yes the Chocobos are back, Final Fantasy would not be Final Fantasy without Chocobos. Chocobos are used for mainly two things, traveling and finding items. The world of Vana'diel is very large, and it can take a very long time walking from one place to another, so when you don't want to travel by ship or airship, your best bet is renting a Chocobo. You can ride Chocobos only in the field area. Chocobos are not permitted to be riding in a town or dungeon. Why? I don't know... maybe the clean up job is to big after they have eaten some greens... Abilities, magic, healing, logging out, temporally going to the POL, items, and trading are forbidden when riding one. If your HP hits bottom zero, then you can't use the Chocobo anymore and are taken off. Item finding is a very useful ability the Chocobos possess. When you are riding a Chocobo, you are granted access to an option called "Hole Digging." Use this command to dig for items. Everytime you attempt to dig for an item, it uses 1 Githal Green, so be very sure of where you want to dig. It will dig for some time, and if you are lucky, you will receive an item, if not, then you will have wasted 1 Githal Green. The area you dig near effects your item. For example, if you dig near water, your item will be water based. Crystals are special items dropped by Monsters, like potions and gils. They aren't dropped as often though. Crystals are used for various tasks, like combining items together or "growing them." There are 8 types of Crystals, each representing the 8 elements of Vana'diel. The main way to receive Crystals is to fight monsters with your own level or a little higher. They made it like this so you, who might be at level 20, won't go off to a lower level zone and just stock up on Crystals from the tiny little critters. You start out by walking over to a border guard from within a zone which your country controls, and ask him to cast the spell "Crysta." Crysta lasts for a limited time only. Once he/she casts it, you can start smacking up all the monsters you can and try to receive some Crystals. There is no guarantee that each monster you defeat will drop one. Remember to kill the harder monsters to have more of a chance to get some Crystals Communication Final Fantasy XI, being an MMORPG, has a great new feature to the Final Fantasy name, communicating! You can talk with your fellow players in the game. You can discuss anything from the price of an item you want to sell, all the way to the current situation on gumball machines. Whatever it is, you can do it. WARNING, NEVER GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOURSELF TO ANYONE YOU TALK TO. Also, let me remind you that you will be carrying conversations with actual people from around the world so please be mindful of your language and manners. If there is someone harassing you, don't worry, there is also a feature which lets you ignore other players. One great feature to communicating is the emotions you can display. With simple commands like /cry or /laugh you can make your character perform these functions so another player can see. Players are given a choice between races, including Hume, Elvaan, Galka, Mithra or Tarutaru. Each with their own talents, human-like Humes are average fighters and magic users, Galka are industrial grunts with excellent strength, small Tarutaru are best suited for magic, the lethal Elvaan are skilled Elv-like fighters, and the Mithra's speed make for excellent thieves. The Humes are the average race in Final Fantasy 11. They are average for every statistic. They don't excell in a single statistic but they don't fell at one either. They are average for magic, fighting, speed, etc. If you want to be an all around fighter, they will be your choice. They inhabit the Republic of Bastok but have many out posts through out Vana'diel so you will find them very common. Evlaans reside within the Kingdom of San'Doria. They are taller then humes and have long pointy ears. They are stronger, have higher vitality, and a higher mind stat which helps them raise their skills faster. They are very suited for close ranged combat. These little cute creatures are called Tarutaru. They are small, around knee high to some of the other races. They are very powerful magic users. They live in the Federation of Windurst. You might think they are very short, but in fact they are blessed. They don't age at all, so there for they don't grow. Their agility and intelligence is higher then the humes, which is good for casting spells since it can be a time consuming process. Mithras are a cat looking race. They are very fast, which is great for being a Thief. You can only play as female Mithras, there are no playable males. There are male Mithras, but they are kept in their villages, since they are so few in numbers. Lucky them! They don't hit as hard as other races, but what they lack in strength, they make up in speed. The Mithra race is against technology and prefer to be with nature that is why the Federation of Windurst is where they live. The Galkas have a very odd way of breeding, they don't breed! Instead, they have the ability to reincarnate themselves. They are very Big, the largest of the 5 races. They are slow but very powerful. Galkas are an all male race, no females. Close combat is their best ability, their size and strength make them the ultimate close ranged combat fighters. They live along with the Humes in the Republic of Bastok. Guilds the world of Vana'diel, Gil is hard to come by. For those of you who don't know what a Gil is, think of it as money Final Fantasy style. Fighting monsters all day long just doesn't produce enough Gils. Guilds were created to give this problem a solution. A Guild is a job, like any another job. I don't mean Job as in fighting class, I mean job as in working job. There are many different types of Guilds for you to join, in fact, there is probably a type of Guild for every player so everyone can enjoy their work. To join a Guild, walk up to a Guild Master and ask him to join. Once you are in, talk to the other workers in your Guild for advice on how to do things right and how to take advantage of the skills you will develop over time. Its very common for you to fail at synthesizing at the beginning. Don't worry, the more you try, the better your skills becomes, the more likely your work will be successful. You have a skill level, just like you have fighting levels. The more you try to work, the higher your level will be. Do not try to synthesis items that require a very high level to create. Start off with the easy things and work your way up. Certain synthesis procedures require multiple skills. Being able to switch your Guild comes very handy in these cases. You can buy other items from other Guilds and also trade with players from the other Guilds Blacksmith Guild Blacksmiths create weapons, armor, and useful metal tools. Boneworker Guild Boneworkers create items, tools, and accessories made from bones. Carpenter Guild Carpenters cut and assemble pieces of wood. They can make wooden shields, musical instruments for Bards, and furniture for your Mog House. Culinary Guild These Chefs make meals. They can mix ingredients and crystals together to make really good meals which can give status effects and raise max HP and MP. Fisherman Guild Fisherman sit and relax by the sea and fish to his heart's content. They sell the fishes they make to the Culinary Guild to make Gils. Alchemist Guild These workers refine metal into even finer metal for better weapons and items. They are also capable of making chemical items such as potions. Jeweler Guild Jewelers create amulets, swords made part jewel, and rings. Needleworker Guild Needleworkers can make shirts, clothes, capes, and hats. They can also make carpets, tapestries, etc. for your Mog House. Skinworker Guild Dealing in animal skins, they create equipment and accessories. Skinworkers are skilled in shoes, belts, and paper as well

As most Final Fantasy veterens know, Final Fantasy wouldn't be Final Fantasy without magic. There are only 3 typs of Jobs in the world of Vana'diel which let you cast magic spells. There is aWhite Mage, which casts spells of light. The Black Mage lets you casts element spells like Fire and Ice. There is also a 3rd, a hybrid mage known as the Red Mage who can cast spells of both White Mage and Black Mage but with a limitation. You can read more about these mages in the jobs page. You can learn spells by purchasing a magic script from certain shops. In FFXI, you must be of the proper mage class to learn spells. Each player will get their Mog House automatically in the residential area. Talk to the guard in front of the residential area for your Mog House. If you want to use the residential area from different countries, you could rent a Mog House. It is free of charge. Mog Houses are very useful. They can store Items, restore your HP, and even grow items. You can change the layout of your Mog House from the items you have in your Mog Vault. You can set pets, shelves, flowers... and more! Your moogle will be there even when you rent the Mog House outside your home Growing plants You can grow Items by using seeds and pots. Seeds and pots are sold in different shops and come in many types. As time passes, the plants grow, flowers bloom, and eventually the plant will wither away. Steps taken to grow the plants: Step 1: Buy a plant and seed from a shop. Step 2: Use the layout command and place a pot in your Mog house. Any remaining seeds can be placed inside your Mog Vault for future use. You are limited to placing up to 10 pots in your Mog House Step 3: Target a pot, then press the "select" button to access the following options: Option 1: Observe: Shows you the progress of you plant. Failing to observe the growth of your plant can make it grow very slowly or stop growing altogether. You can have your Moogle send you reports of its progress to your chat window. Make sure to check your plant very often. You can check it as many times at you need to. Option 2: Plant a Seed: You can choose this option as long as your pot is empty. Option 3: Use a Crystal: This option becomes available once your plant has grown for enough time. Using a Crystal on your plant helps It grow a much better Item. Option 4: Dry: You can stop the growth of your plant and keep its current appearance forever. Be cautious of using this command because once its used, you cannot change it. Remember, this is only for appearance purposes. Option 5: Cancel Cultivation: This command cancels the growth of your plant and empties the pot. You cannot reverse this command either. The world of Vana'Diel is vast and wide. It can take players hours of walking just to get their destination. But you don't have to walk anymore. Now there is a way to travel around the world of Vana'Diel. You may travel via Ship, Air Ship, or Chocobo. It does cost Gil, so traveling all the time via these options, will start to get expensive. Ship Ships travel over water and go a little slower then Airships. Its possible to explore the ship's rooms and even go outside. While outside, you can either watch the scenery or even fight a battle. Airships Airships are much faster then ships. This is due to their ability to fly in the air. They land, pick up passengers, then use their choppers to lift themselves off from the water, and fly through the air. You can't fight on an airship since there aren't any monsters that fly so high, but you can still enjoy the beautiful view, explore the rooms, and talk to the ship's NPC.

Oh... I'm very sorry its just i kind of got carried away and wasn't thinking.. anyway I don't know of any more FAQS but I'll look some more and post it here if and when I find them. W H A T I S F F X I ? MMORPG Definition: Any game in which hundreds or more players simultaneously role play is termed a MMORPG. These games started mostly in the fantasy category, but will soon run the gambit from science fiction to medieval combat. Usually these games charge a monthly fee for participation (In this case it does). Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) is the first ever Online RPG of the Final Fantasy series. The network world is called Vana'diel, which the player itself will be create the "character" of the game. You can solve mysteries and defeat monsters both alone and through the unity of other members of your party. This type of game allows you to play the game freely with your own style. In Final Fantasy XI, the character is the player. When designing their character at the beginning of the game, the players are able to choose the race they would like, the sex of the character, the way the face looks, and the size of the body. In addition, Final Fantasy XI will feature a "Job System", much like some of the older Final Fantasy Series. By mastering various "Jobs" you will be able to have the "Job Abilities" of that specific job. What's special about any MMORPG, is the feature of "Communication" with other players. This does not change with Final Fantasy XI. They have prepared the user friendly "Chat System" and "Friend Registry" for you to communicate with. Making friends in game makes it more fun to play and also allows you to advance through the game at a faster pace.
