Fishing cap question

Just a quick question I don't know the answer to. If you are, let's say a level 5 and are fishing moat carp which cap at level 11. And you have all 4 pieces of fishing gear on so you are skill 5+4. When you get to 7, so you are 7+4=11 are you capped? Or can you still fish moat carp until you actually are skill 11?

You will continue to gain skillups until your base skill reaches the cap for the fish.
