So I was fortunate enough to finally get my fishing up to 28 yesterday so I could test up to novice. Today's guild item is the Bastore Sardine, and I read on Great Blue that you could catch multiple Sardines with the Sabiki Rig. I picked one up and started fishing, but all I seem to get are solo fish. Any tips on how I can make the x 2 & x 3 catches happen? Thanks in advance!

I think its pretty much random... don't think you can force it at all..

It depends on where and when (check the moon phrase), and the weather, but it is still random.

I don't think you'll start Catching the x2's and x3's until you're a little higher up in your fishing. From what I've encountered I started getting x2 and x3 when i was lvl 65 fishing off the bastok-jeuno port. So I'd go so far to say its like HQing on an low tier item when crafting.

but again it could be just random.

i remember catching multiples of sardines at like lvl 1 fishing <.< this was of course 4 years ok so my flawless memory may be highly flawed. or they changed something

It's pretty much random. It doesn't matter what your fishing level is.

I caught multiple bastore sardines with the rig on the dock in port windurst near the fish hut. Location is a huge deal when fishing. If you go to the lower "level" areas such as cities you will catch fish easier an more frequently. Id imagine you would get a good return at the dock in windurst.

I don't think anyone deliberately fishes for Bastore Sardines under normal circumstances. They're easy enough to purchase from the shop if you're in need of some for whatever reason, and the amount of guild points they net you on the days when they show up as a guild item are pretty tiny compared to the amount of effort required to catch them.

That said, the Sabiki Rig will pull in 1-3 of any fish it can attract, with the sole exception of Cobalt Jellyfish, which always appears as a single catch regardless of what you use to catch it.

Yeah I was trying to get them at the fishing & cooking guilds, but no luck that day. I'm still new enough to the guild that there is a bit of a thrill getting new things for them. I guess I'm strange or something. xD

Oh, and as for the Sabiki rigs and fishing, I would do some fishing at the airship docks in Jeuno and get a fair number of multiple catches.

Yeah decided to do a little fishing on my alchemy mule today who has 0 skill in fishing.

Went with a clothes pole and a sabiki rig to port bastok and was catching bastore sardine like crazy and I even got 2x every now and then.

So yeah its possible with out any skill at all to get those 2x's I believe its pretty much random
