Man, screw fishing ._.

It seems like every time I find a new favorite fishing spot, I've got about two weeks before bots move in and completley rape the bite rate. A few months ago it was Nashmau, this week they finally got Talacca.

It was so beautiful on Saturday too. I only got a "You didn't catch anything" no bite message like every ten, maybe even twenty casts. I got a skill point and a half in less than five Pelican Ring charges. On Monday three anon shell-less Tenshodo Members with Lak____ names moved in. Tonight I spend twenty minutes there and cast three freaking fish. I reported them, but considering the same two bots that I reported the hell out of a few months ago are still in Nashmau, I have no faith that anything will be done about them. It's so bloody obvious they're bots, too. What normal player lands istiridye, mercanbaligi, ahtapot and dil in exactly four seconds every single time? Hell, one of the Talacca fishbots is even named Lakbott. >_<

What on earth was SE thinking when they made fishing spots on par with SSG except with no aggro or any mobs whatsoever?
__________

I know it's too much to ask, but just once before I die I wish I could see a GM just pop in and {Great Sword} some bot heads.

Talacca you can catch mobs. But yeah, it's a pain in the butt that they moved in on those spots. The ones in Talacca actually had Lu Rods. I haven't been there at all lately, but I hope they got banned with those. SSG is now the place to fish at again until 90. I haven't seen any bots there since I've started fishing there again.

I wasn't aware of people messing up bite rates either.

It's not too much to ask. During one of the Halloween events, they had GMs going around dressed in various costumes (as in, ones that players couldn't get. For example, one of them was a Crawler, and managed to climb up to the top of the fountain in Windurst). I was watching one of them, he walked up next to someone who was fishbotting, and turned them into a bat. Might not put them out of commission, but it definitely took out of their profits ^^

There are a certain amount of fish per spot and respawn one fish every 2 minutes I think. So, yeah. When you have a bunch of people fishing in the same spot and fish it out, you can tell.

Re: Man, screw fishing ._.

Unfortunately I've noticed the trend of bot fishermen in Nashmau. It's also very depressing when we take the time to send the STF a report and it takes months (as in, I'm still waiting 6 months later) for anything to be done about it.

I have no issues with SE's RMT-fighting strategies thus far, but the fishing section is a serious fault, and needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

I guess I'll just go to SSG instead of Nashmau for the time being

Re: Man, screw fishing ._.

What Sati said. Fishing and chocobo digging have very similar systems. Too many people in a zone cause it to get "fished out" very quickly.

And yeah, you can catch mobs in Talacca, but the bot program can tell the difference and cancels those catches. Also, iirc fished mobs will only attack the person who fished them up. Some fun facts though: Fished mobs in Talacca don't despawn when you log or zone, and the default battle music there is the ToAU BCNM music which makes for some extremely dramatic battles with DC crabs.

I threw up my hands at fishing for skillups and went to West Sarutabaruta to fish up a Bladefish for my guild exam. Two guesses what I found there.

Ummmmm.........fish?

Ya, the bot program is quite amazing and after SE tweaks the game....programmers tweak the bots. I still remember the old days in Rabao when I actually cared about fishing.

You got lucky. I pulled mobs three times there. All of them was the first time I fished there. It didn't help that they were all VT++. I was only able to get away from one. I wish I noticed how easy it is to tell between mobs and Ahtapots. The Ahtapots pull up once when you first hook them and mobs immediately go to switching from right to left. That should help as well for SSG.

With high enough skill you can almost always tell what's on the hook. If you're going after fish that aren't large, then anything with fast music and three exclamation points (!!!) on the hooking message is going to be a large fish/large item/monster and should be let go.

If you're going after big things though, things get dangerous.

Re: Man, screw fishing ._.

long ago when I had a 72 WHM, I often hung out in grotto in fort gelshba, inside the grotto caves, follow the caves north on the map to a pool of shallow water, there should be some stones sticking out of the ground, I think its that pond, there are brass rings, maybe gold ones too, that you can constantly catch if you fish skill is high enough. and if it is, you can desynth them into ignots. I think its a good way to fish and make some coin, I remember there being a group of 3-5 gil sellers fishing all the time, and the item "found" string would pop up every minute when they fished in the grotto.
