Re: Fishing in San D'oria
I'm not fond of the fastwater rod; it's a bit flimsy for the price.

One thing you should try is fishing at the pond on West Ronfaure; that pond has no tricolored carp, and you can fish with insect paste and get nothing but moat carp (plus items and monsters, naturally). A stronger rod like a Halcyon works great for moat carp without such a high risk of breakage, though it's somewhat more expensive.

Re: Fishing in San D'oria
For catching Carp, I actually suggest a Hume Rod if they're not too expensive for you. It takes the stamina down very quickly.

You'll just need to let go of any fish that give you "!!!" (3 exclamation marks). These will probably break the rod. Also, beware of items (rod will hang in the middle longer than normal) since some of these could also break the rod.

Re: Fishing in San D'oria
I love my Halcyon rod. I would definitely recommend one.

If you're fishing level is 10 or below, then I would recommend Insect Paste at the Knightwell in West Rounfare. As you move past 10 you may want to move back into Sandy and fish with Insect Paste, as the Tricolored Carp will continue to skill you up til about 23. From that point forward, I would recommend fishing with Insect Paste in Windurst Waters. The fish there will either be Moat Carp or Gold Carp, which cap at about 53 and sell alright to NPCs.

If you follow that pattern, you can catch Moat Carp to sell or save for the Lu Shang, while continuing to level up. The gains will be slow but every .1 helps.

Re: Fishing in San D'oria
The closest NPCs that sells Insect Paste are the Fishing guild in Windurst and the M&P Market in Kazham. I'm not sure about the Fishing guild store in Selbina because I rarely use it. On the AH, look under Weapons > Ammo > Fishing Gear. It usually sells on AH for about 1k a stack but the Moats you catch will make back what you spend rather quickly and then some.

Re: Fishing in San D'oria
Willow fishing rod and little worms
Use these until your fishing is around 7. You will catch crayfish and moat carp with this combo. After level 7 fishing switch to one of the rods and paste that is in my previous post.

Thanks Kazuki.

Re: Fishing in San D'oria
Honeslty my first money making experience was fishing in san. With a Yew Rod and Insect paste. Yes yew its cheap last atleast 4-5 stacks if not triple that (you cant be retarded on what you try to fish up). So if it breaks buy a new one or kill gob fishers they drop them. Fish up moat carp for 4-5k or whatever it is on your server a stack then sell away. :D

Fishing used to be my main source of income in this game, back when a stack of moat carps used to be worth 15k. Now, they're at 4k a stack. ;;

To be fair, the price of everything has dropped. It still might be enough for starting out, it's easy, can be done by any level player and sales are pretty consistent.
