FFXIV seems like it will be a class identification nightmare.

they say There is no real concept of static "classes" in the traditional sense.

some say SE means you'll be able to mold the classes into entirely something else through your actions in the game

I.E : No two lancers will be completely alike.

But I think that is will be chaos figuring out exactly what a player is, and what specifically they can do.
back then, you just look up their class and level and you know all of the abilities they should have and stuff.

but now, things may be even more vague without clear signs to what they really are. They said there will be new Titles
based on your combination of Skills learned from various weapons, though wouldn't that lead to even more confusion?

On the plus side, this leads to more potential Job hybrids than any FF we ever played.

You're assuming this will play like FFXI in which it's absolutely critical to have certain jobs if you want to EXP. Except in XIV they're claiming you can EXP solo, or with a friend, or two friends. And they claim you don't need to EXP party; rather, do Guildleves which in theory could range from killing 5 rats to finding a goblin hiding somewhere. And apparently you can switch abilities to fit your current goal. And they want people to gather at Aetherytes, so you could ask people if they have what you need right there. It also does not follow that because two lancers aren't completely alike, they're completely different.

aaaah. but um um, there is like new news and stuff, so speculation is higher than ever!

Especially this Friday when all 6 pages of new scans will be revealed! I'm thinking the class won't matter in FFXIV just like
race doesn't matter. So yea, maybe it won't matter, since people can customize their class without even needing to change their class to fill in a different role, which was confirmed by a dev saying your class can be tanking type or damage dealing type without needing to change weapon/class.

Of course I don't think all classes can switch between Tank and DD. but maybe DD and Healing or DD and Support. or Support and Tanking. combinations like that may be possible.

So yea I guess things will be more flexible and acceptable.

Relax, take a deep breath, count to 100 you will be alright!

If it really is this vague, then all the better, like Balfree said it will require people to communicate LOL. No longer will your gear be the only thing that determines if you are good or not, but also if you took the time to work on them skills. ^^b that my favorite part of it all =D

I can't imagine it would be too different from most games wherein all classes boil down to:

Damage Dealer
Tank
Healer

People will just identify themselves as one of those three.

That's it! That's precisely what they are planning! Now there are only 3-4 Jobs. DD, Healer, and Tank! And all Jobs have skills that allow each Job to fill in those roles! (except maybe healer, but each Job will at least allow 1 of 2 roles they can choose to fill in.

This leads to much flexibility and no strict way to party and stuff!

Well I didn't mean Jobs Jobs, but more like the Jobs may centered around multiple roles instead of how it was fabricated before.

But of course not jack of all trades like what ruined DNC, which did many roles but was not the best at anything.

FFXIV's classes sound more effective and customizable at what they do and still being really good at what they are setup to do.
