Although you have to consider XIV was originally planned as an XI upgrade, but then became it's own project. So having a similar (if not pretty much the same) world was pretty much a given.

What I think is silly is for SE to use different race names, because recylcing the elements that work (and their names) is a trademark of the series. But if that's enough to convince some players this world isn't Vana HD remix then so be it.


(I will of course keep referring to them with XI names anyway )

Generic landscapes are generic.

Not that you don't have a point, Tickmeoff, but what sort of landscape does FFXI not have? Desert? Altepa. Petrified forest? Zi'Tah. Normal forest? Ronfaure. Caves? Shakhrami, Onzozo. Beaches? Valkurm, Terrigan. Sandy caves? Got those too. Plains? Got 'em. Canyons? Wastelands? Snowy fields? Ancient ruins? Tropical Jungles? Small island paradise? Volcanoes? Ship Graveyards? Check, check, check. Obviously if you want to draw parallels to FFXI you'll succeed because it covers practically all natural landscapes and some generic RPG staples like a floating island in the sky too.

It's like accusing the Swordsman class of being an HD recycling. The concept of a class wearing full plate armor and swinging a sword has been recycled a million times.

The architecture of buildings appears to have a fairly different style from that seen in XI's, so at least we have a departure there. They appear to be avoiding XI's jobs, so there's another departure there. Sure, the races are the same but Yoshida's armor designs are different. The Swordsman job sported a more realistic-looking and closer-fitting armor than FFXI's Cuirasses (Iron Musketeer's, Adaman, etc.) Then there's those FFXII-ish flying machines.

Yea. Cid HAS to be in this FF game other wise it wont be FF with out him. Cid has been in every FF game, and with out him, ther wont be a Cid, or any airships for that matter. Chocobos, are a must to have though, and some sort of crystal as well. Even if it doesn't have much of any signifigance, it has to have it.

Cid was not in FF1. It's been a while, but I don't think he was in FFII either, maybe FFIII if I recall. was he in FFVI? hmm anyways FF1 proves a FF doesn't need to Cid. it's nice bonus nostalgia, but not vital. :p

I can't speak for FFII, but I'm pretty sure that being acquainted with Cid is one of the first things you do in FFIII, as well.

You would have had a better argument had you mentioned FFI's lack of chocobos, a staple that just about every single other FF game since has not failed to provide at least some sort of hint of.

FF1 is the only one that didn't have Cid, but FF1 sucks anyways. EDIT: Disregard, I guess FF1 had a Cid after all.

By your logic FF games don't need Chocobos either since FF1 didn't have them if I remember correctly.

That's not what he was referring to when he said recyclings though.

They are of course newly built models created to work with next gen hardware. But that doesn't mean they are brand new or that they aren't revisits of XI's environments. But it really doesn't make any difference either way.

What matters is that the game is good an improves on the good points of XI. And that we wont know for a long time until we actually get our hands on it, no matter how many screenshots and interviews we get to see.



So trying so desperately to call this a brand new game* is as silly as expecting this game to be a straight remake of XI.



*Even though you have the exact same races and it's so obvious the initial zones will be an XI (and some other FF games) remix.

wow can we get more bitching in this thread? Really -.- game is not even out yet, let alone beta stage, all we ahve is scansa and a few screen shots of some land, and all I a hearing is bitching about how this looks like this, and that looks like that.... What ever happened to game play and story?

How about they just ditch FFXIV all together?..... thats what I though -.- now hush and wait for new info like the rest of us.

Jumping? {No, thanks.}

There will be bunny hoppers like there are in WoW, and it will get very laggy in busy towns with people doing the "bunny hop". Imagine trying to go through the AH in Aht Urgan, and people are "bunny hopping" non stop in that area.
