Haha. Now no need to make them play as if they where playing FFXI

I wonder if any magic or abilities, or battle system was leeked when they revealed this...

Hmmmm... *Starts to scoure the interwebs*

Lalafel... psh, yeah right.[color="Silver"]
.
Lalafell sounds great and you know you will get used to calling them that! new universe, new lore, new history, etc.

the new races sound great so far. Once we know what the Mithra and Elvaan-looking races are called in Haiderin,
we can stop calling them Mithra and Elvaan.

I'm already imagining normal FFXIV conversations!

"Well that Roegadyn was laughing their ass off when they saw that Lalafell party get wiped by some jellies. Hyurans FTW!"

anyone who uses the FFXI race names in FFXIV will end up looking like a noob.

Never, but surprisingly, Mhurron did such a thing very recently.

Blacksmith, Enchanter and Archer are obviously the ones that jump out and grab my interest.

I wonder if Enchanter is going to emulate other versions of Enchanter in other MMOs, though, because I've always found FFXI's means of crowd control inferior to that of Everquest's Enchanter. Could just be a starting point for a summoner class, but even so, the possibility that they might be lifting some notes on crowd control from other games is somewhat encouraging.

Blacksmith sounds interesting, so long as repair is just as much a factor as creation and NPC Blacksmiths exist to compete with player ones, I suppose.

And, obviously, I have my preference for ranged attackers, so Archer is going to pique my interest right away.

So sad

Also.. even though it's awesome to keep the old races and all with a tone up on graphics, I really would have liked to seen some new races as well, such as the Bangaa (sp?) in FFXII

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Races and Classes Revealed!!!! (SCANS!) ultimate game!

Looking at the job category:

Fighter: swordsman, archer
Sorcerer: enchanter, warlock
Crafter: blacksmith, cook
Gatherer: gardener, fisherman

I am wondering how blacksmith, cook, gardener, fisherman fit in (to the story, party, mission, quest, etc?). I mean in FFXI the job system is combat oriented, while H.E.L.M and crafting are in their own category.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Races and Classes Revealed!!!! (SCANS!) ultimate game!

I think that they will be used like a a fighting job.

Black Smith can repair items, and uses a hammer to fight.

Fisherman can help find fish (??? Idk don't ask lol)

Gardener can be like an Herbalist. Can create herbs, potions, antivenoms, and so on.

And we cook also... so gather 6 people, form a party, and have picnic and BBQ in the woods

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Races and Classes Revealed!!!! (SCANS!) ultimate game!

who says they have to be on the front lines in combat?

It could work more like a real life military. It takes all types-- some of them (production of heavy weaponry) rarely need to leave home, others are kept at your base or the back lines, working on vital supplies but not inserting themselves in the fray (Doctors, cooks, technicians), then there are people not in combat, but on the front line (medics), and then there are the people in the thick of battle.

You don't see many soldiers cooking dinner in their combat armor; nor do you see many chefs shooting people in the face.

Only the ones who are very militant about getting enough iron in your diet.

EDIT: For that matter, who says that the game has to be combat-based? Vana'diel is all about 'adventure'... the next logical step is to replace 'killing your way from A to B' as a form of adventure with true adventure in the way classic fantasy literature has done it-- you have a long, hard journey between two places, and you're rewarded with the experience of the trip. Regardless of how many things you killed along the way.

You find (or are given) treasures as you go along, you do odd jobs (or sell treasures) to make money, everyone in the group looks out for one another in various ways, etc.

This is all too easy to implement in an MMO. The sad thing is that we all see these jobs and instantly think "ok, how do I kill shit dead with this."

LMAO! well I think the crafters and gatherers as their own jobs/classes, doesn't mean they may be involved in combat
as well, but it depends on various things. But overall, their expertise is in crafting and gathering. The real fighting is being saved for the fighter and sorceror classes for sure. Though it's really probably not much different from before where people can choose to craft and stuff. But maybe there is much more to being a blacksmith or gatherer and stuff? It should be quite interesting,
but you know, there are people who play mmorpgs and just like crafting instead of fighting. So maybe the craft type of roles
have greater uses and benefits now.

this is so true. This leads to many interesting possibilities! And this is great, because there will be jobs for those who like to be on the front lines, those that like magic, and those that like to craft and stuff and still be helpful.

That could be very intersting.

I would love to see someone really pull this off in a game.

The hair is totally the top knot they used in XI, which will make a friend of mine very happy.

I have always, and forever will, call Elvaans Elfs. Not Elves, not Elvaan, but Elfs. I done it for 5+ years of FFXI and I'll be damned if I stop when FFXIV comes about. Speaking of which, that elf chick is totally tappable.

Seeing as they only offered a sampling of the races, who knows if they've actually added more or not.
