I don't know. It may be CG art of some kind, it's very blurry and hard to tell. but with crystal tools, who knows? maybe the in-game might look that great?

I think this would be a good idea in the interim, but I think the staff here are still sort of up-in-the-air about how we'll handle FFIV. I've spoken to PiNG briefly about it and he hasn't really made any decisions yet.

First off, thanks

and secondly, that's understandable. Despite being connected by the title and races, FFXI and FFXIV are still going to be two completely different games and this still is a FFXI specific forum. My vote still leans to doing what BG did with a sub-forum in the gaming section to keep it separate and neat, but I can see why there'd be hesitance to do that seeing as we generally get much less traffic and random posts.

Because, you know, this time around the game is getting a simultaneous worldwide release. However, yeah, it's perfectly acceptable they continue to treat one part of the playerbase a step above everyone else.

they have boards for Computers, Entertainment, and even Anime/manga. and two of those things aren't even remotely related to what this website is about. :p

Here we have more exciting media and info for the successor of FFXI (FFXI will be closed eventually), and it has yet to have its own board. It should at least have its own board until the staff decides to create a new website for it.
FFXIV is FFXI's sister, after all.

The floodgates are going to open again at gamescom, and again possibly at TGS. one thread isn't going to keep things readable and findable for most.

True, but that only makes up a small percentage of the site. When the massive loads of info start crashing down, and the actual game nears coming out there will be a bunch of people flocking here to use the board. Eventually people will start asking for FFXIV to have its own forum website since there will be too many questions/comments and it'll be too much of a hassle to have up two boards. I mean it would be a nice addition for the time being, but eventually it'd either have to get the boot or its own site.

It *is* perfectly acceptable for a major Japanese game company to release info to a major Japanese gaming magazine that they have been working closely with for years. It's not them screwing anyone over or giving people the cold shoulder, it's a two companies who have a long standing history working together to share information. It's not like it's a long wait for us to hear about the news. Hell, this magazine doesn't even come out until Friday and we already have scans and translations of the entire article.

I'm just trying to see it from their end. I agree FFXIV should have it's own subforum, but I can see why management doesn't want to do that and won't complain if they decide not to. It's perfectly reasonable for them to not want people looking for FFXIV info to come here and flood an FFXI forum.

Well lets be realistic though, we don't really know if any US magazines contacted them for additional info and were turned down. If they are turning down interviews with other magazines then it is a god damn shame and I'll jump on the "here we go again" bandwagon too. Some of the new info does make me pretty satisfied about what awaits us, though there are a lot of details still to be unvieled. The job system in particular still seems a tad cryptic. Enchanter could be a job, or it could be a craft that enchants weapons to have stats and special effects.

But the fact that weapons/armor degrade and will require repair does give me a lot of hope for the game's crafting system and economy. Its far too late for FFXI to try to adopt such a system and it would be met with tons of resistance, SE's trying to find way to remove gear from the system as best they can, but FFXIV will be doing it the right way from day one. Plus it makes sense given weapons are central to the job system itself and gives greater purpose to the blacksmithing profession and any other craft that may affect weapons and armor.

The place the Miqo'te hail from makes more since than where the Mithra come from in FFXI. Wouldn't a race of catpeople be better off in colder regions where they'd have an advantage by having fur on their bodies in the first place? Kazham is a tropical place and the Mithra said, "Hey, let's settle here and pass out from the heat all the time."

I like that there's some kind of sense of faction within the races themselves. This could imply many different starting points and a departure from the symmetrical nature FFXI had. It also adds some nice roleplay potential and more diverse rivalries. Its all well and good to cheer and jeer when Conquest comes up, but the best it usually gets is "Lastok Sucks."

The Roegadyn look much cooler than the Galka ever did, more refined and less Hulk-like. The Lalafell look a bit more child-like while Tarutaru tend to look like toddlers with bulbous heads. They don't look as comical as the taru, but I'm sure we'll find some humor to be had with them as well, though perhaps not on a Shantotto level.

We see a lot of Lions in pretty hot places. There's no reasons cats can't survive in warm conditions.
