Yea. Its sad, but true. Games are about having fun, not being better than another or trying to prove you are.

I play on the PS3 every once in a while, and every time I unlock a trophy, Its just like "Meh". I like reading them as some of them are funny, but other than that... theres nothing really worthwhile for them. Sure, its nice to compare what you have done against others, but thats just about it. No real point in arguring over that stuff.

I agree unless it is a online FPS. I did think it was kinda cool to have my achievement points displayed on facebook though since I use it alot. It even shows my avatar which is really what I like to play around with.

I heard this alot.
Never heard it once from 360 players on Titan (when 360 players arrived) or Odin (ever).

That said, achievements have been one of the dumbest, soul-sucking things you can do to a game. Sony and MS requiring them only makes me more reluctant to invest in their consoles. Everyone's so giddy to have achievements or trophies that online game communities die fast (but I suppose that's the point).

/Cranky Kong mode on

Back in my day "achievements" was called getting the High Score, doing speed runs or getting 100% collection/completion. We pulled our hair out figuring this stuff ourselves and had a darn good time doing it, too. Gamers these days look up guides on the interweb thing to gain "achievements" and "trophies." BAH! What's the sense of accomplishment in having your hand held? Did I need a guide to kidnap Penelope? Did Link need a guide to save Hyrule? Did Mega Man need a guide to defeat Dr. Wily all those times? NO!

If I had my druthers, all you kids would be given three lives and three continues. THAT'S IT!

Well, whats happened, happened. I still have one friend that I (Rarely) still talk to. he does End game, HNMS, and all the other stuff, hes rich as hell, and he didn't get sucked into the end game. He even puts off HNMS, and such to help my linkshell at times, which I am surprised that he still does.

And at OMGWTFBBGKITTEN. LMFAO! XD

Give this man a cookie, and some milk and a trip to nintendo's home office because he speaks the truth. Who here has not died more then three times in mega man x2 on the motorcycle stage because the camera is a bit to far back so you don't see the wall that instantly causes you to blow up into hundreds of proton particles. Who here had faced dead ends traps in mario and servived them by the fact that if you jump into an empty block it still moves just enough to kill the gumbah by stomping. Who here discovered what the demon rage was in Street fighter Alpha by having it done to you by the AI and you thought the game froze before you saw your bloodied corpse hit the ground when you have no more quaters. Who here still calls ai controlled opponents in console games "the computer". Yes it was a time were gamers were only know by the three letter intials you can store. Back when you could actully use the gameboy aka the rock and chisel as a bat if need be.

These were not the good old days these days sucked and I loved them none the less.

I lmao'd at this. In the words of my big brother "The Computer is cheating!!!" (While playing any sports related game it always seems to fit.)

This is turning into the ultimate nostalgia thread.[/quote]

M O M.. that was me. I'd usually have high score too and then my son would get endlessly teased by his friends. It's one of the reasons the kid is so good at games now. He had to play his ass off to get high score so they'd stop laughing at him! LOL

Whenever I feel nostalgic I take a trip over to The Old Computer and download an emulator or two and mess around on some Atari and Spectrum classics.
