Re: FFXIV, I hope it's not like what this has become.

wow... all I can say is wow...

There are some professional gamers out there that treat this game like a job and play for just as long - it seems. I will readily admit to googling answers - google's the reason I am here. While I do agree that sadly alot of people have the grinder WoW mindset, I think there's some people that play for the excitement of discovery and interaction(ME!). Alot of the acronyms used by the pros go over my head, alot of the areas/jobs/skills/eq/items/cool stuff insert here has me sighing oh so wistfully cuz I can only DREAM to even see that kind of stuff much less have the gil to buy it. It's hard starting out unless you developed your character to a point where you're an asset to a party. I've heard of but have not seen a social party/group...I've yet to see anyone emote anything to me (all stuff you can do in game - cute emotes btw). I've heard about mentors but I have yet to meet one, much less have anyone approach me asking if I needed help. Hell...I think I would faint if someone actually rp'd. Maybe I'm a little too new to be jaded but... to me, it's a game. I plan to have fun.

Professional gamers, huh?

I have to give you credit for putting it like that. I definitely would've used waaaay less flattering words to describe the same.

But it looks like SE understands now that most players (the ones who bring them the most money) play MMOGs more casually, so they seem to be aiming for that approach with XIV.

Which is great for me since I don't have that much time to play, but like games like XI.

What the heck does 'pros' refer to, anyway?

I don't mean to insult some of the senior players of the forum, but when you can do combat/magic/whatever trait or skill or ability algorithms in your head/at the tip of your fingers/got memorized...you've crested into that professional level for me. I'm sure it comes with time spent in game (over the course of years) and I respect your wisdom. Thanks IfritnoItazura for the slang dictionary link

That's not the same as being pro, though. If they were professional gamers, they would have sponsors paying them for playing the game.

But yes, if you have any ambition to succeed in the game, you'll start picking up information, along with terms and lingo, in no time.
