Either way, sitting in a town in Guild Wars looking for a group isn't any different from sitting in Jeuno or Whitegate seeking party. There's nothing "massive" about grinding with 5 other people in either game.

"Massive" events died with EverQuest. If you dared to wake up The Sleeper he'd wipe the hell out of your puny 100 man raid and proceed to walk to every other zone in the world and kill every single player. It wasn't until recently that he was killed on a single server by a raid of 300+ people.
In games like Guild wars .. you cant just run around aimlessly and get stuff completed like you can on an MMO with other people doing the same thing NOT in a party or your party. The difference is just that.. free roam of the world to do as you please and as you want and not rely off of having a party to complete tasks Just cause there hasent been a 400 man raid to fight a dragon doesnt mean that massive has died with EQ..

Re: E3 2009: FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Coming in 2010

As nuch as I would love for people to understand the diffrence, I know that many wont, and I dont want this thread to derail to baddly ;p

but I would end with this......

Massively multiplayer online game:
A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMOG or simply MMO) is a video game which is capable of supporting hundreds[citation needed] or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and feature at least one persistent world. They are, however, not necessarily games played on personal computers. Most of the newer game consoles, including the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Wii can access the Internet and may therefore run MMO games.

WoW and FFXI have this, PSU and Guildwars, along with others of its kind do not.

They fall under.....

Multiplayer online game:
A Multiplayer Online Game is a multiplayer video game which can be played via a game server over the internet, with other players around the world. Some prominent examples of this are Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, Quake 3 , Warcraft 3, Starcraft, and Call of Duty 2.

These games differ from MMORPGs in that they do not create a persistent world, but create a playing arena for the purpose of a single game or round. In other words, they rely on a game server used only for that round, and there can be numerous servers all around the world. MMORPGs on the other hand, rely on dedicated servers, as these games must be running continuously.

Now if you cant understand this, I am sorry, but I cant help ya ;p

so back to FFXIV goodness..... when might we get more info? Tokyo Game show?, and I forgot when that is anyway.....

Re: E3 2009: FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Coming in 2010

This is the only game that's even going to enter my mind for the next year or so. Can't wait for FFXIV.

To be honest I'm surprised how closely SE has stayed to FFXI, at least aesthetically. Some of their comments lead me to believe their going to quite possibly retain the job system mostly unchanged.

Thank god the Tarutarus shall return!

If you're looking for a good compilation of info (so far) on XIV, I've been using Final Fantasy14 Online - FFXIV Information, Screenshots, Forum, and More!. Was just put up the day of the announcement, but already has all the official information listed and categorized nicely.

Hello new home! J/K

But yea. I hope that this sight will help keep me updated on the running of FFXIV, and information about it.

I do hope to get into beta. Mainly so that I can tell my linkshell, friends, and the forums about the game, and the job system. Everyone in my ls wants to know more about it, but I can't find any more information about it, no matter how far I dig into google, yahoo, and anything else I can find/think of.

its still a tad early before they announce beta details.

the FFXIV wiki forums will probably spread any news really fast since those boards are basically everything FFXIV.

yeah this is the time in FFXIV's life where the mass speculation really starts... the info is some what reliable, but just because they are hiring those types to start work in September, really means nothing.

Ya the title of the blog article even says "SPECULATION: Beta as early as Sept." but I just wanted to clarify so we don't have people making threads "WHOOOOOOOOOO BETA STARTING IN SEPTEMER!!" "ARE YOU GOING TO BETA TEST IN SEPT?" "POST HERE IF YOU ARE BETA TESTING IN SEPT!!1!1!"

Aww, and I wanted to start a thread titled "Post here if you don't care about Beta, even if it starts in September"

But yeah, while it probably would be nice to be there I wont go out of my way to get in even if I happen to find out about it soon enough (I always miss that kinda stuff.)

A Beta so soon would be nuts. If they really are so far along, great job on their part for keeping it underwraps till now.

Hell yeah dude.. It's easy to do though. I mean they mentioned something bout 4 years ago and we all forgot about it. So they've had that long to make and perfect and get tons of feedback from the FFXI community. So they probably decided.. hey we're ready, and we got our teaser trailer at E3

Re: E3 2009: FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Coming in 2010

I'd love to actually get in on the Beta test -whenever it may be- but I'd be happy with it just starting so we could get some damn information. And while the point of a Beta is to test and tweak, we'd get a much better grasp on just how solo-player friendly the game is, how combat and jobs work. For me, the major make or break point is if they truly make solo an equally accessible path to cap and decent gear, or if it's just smoke in the wind and they stick to something Campaign-like, which while solo-friendly, is rather tedious. And my 360 just loves to freeze halfway through. Damn thing can't even handle the stuff on screen for XI, how in heaven's name do they expect to put XIV on it and have it not stutter to death in major towns?

And I really, really do want more AH slots. If they insist on us still sticking to that and farming to death for money, I want more slots at least. I'd rather have NPC-able garbage be a feasible source of income as well, but I don't think SE would ever go in for something like that, judging from their mass overreaction on nerfing prices on things. Yeah, yeah, RMT used them. But so did quite a lot of legit players. I don't like being shoehorned into their 'preferred' method of making gil. I hate crafting. It's boring as sin on XI. It's boring as sin on LotRO. XI is worse because of the 'synth umpteen things and maybe get a .1 up' bit, but both are pretty damn dull. Maybe if drop rates were less atrocious. Why, why, why do Crawlers, say, in CN for example, have an equally suck drop rate on silk thread? Sure, they shouldn't be 100%, but having roughly the same rate as the little guys out in Sarutabaruta?

dont worry about the horrible performance on FFXI to matter with FFXIV, FFXI is running emulated on both PC and 360..... and thats why the performance is so horrible
