What's the context of yours, Dak? A paladin being attacked by mammets that can, somehow, be transparent and walk on wells, well talking about something you can't make out?

Have you ever had to tank Mammets? It's not easy, and I've come to appreciate what I've suffered for. The context is 'zomg mammets!' and I've taken a few liberties since I've kept very little sense of realism.

I expect context from transworld art just like I would expect context from various photographs people have taken. Nobody hands you a photograph and says 'Here's a picture.', do they? It's usually 'This is us at this place,' or 'Check out this shot of the sunrise in some place,' right?

Why not go the next mile and add some context? Where are the characters? What are they doing? Why? It's not difficult to answer those questions without having to write it out. People will enjoy it, especially if it brings back memories of their experiences in the game.

It's no big deal though, just constructive criticism.

A picture tells its own story. It shouldn't have to be explained.

Pictures can tell many stories. Wouldn't you appreciate being told the correct one? Even in photo albums and occasionally in online galleries there are notes, names, and dates. Why? The context brings meaning, not the picture itself.

I'm going to poll a few friends of mine to see if they don't feel the same way. I'd be surprised if I'm the only one who appreciates context. It's not just a social psychology thing.

Don't get me wrong, context can be nice, but what are you expecting? "This is a synthesized photo of my character that I will use in signature blocks"

Also, if a moderator happens across this thread, has the signature limit been increased? I seem to recall it being 25KB, but pretty much every signature in the thread (not just the new ones); and indeed the site seem to be over that, and I don't really know if they're too large (considering the option to turn off images)

It's just my opinion that it would behoove the artist to consider context when creating art. A taru loitering in a forest just doesn't carry as much weight as an Elvaan barring entrance to a bridge with his great sword.

Dak: But some people do loiter. A lot of time spent in game is loitering. It's relaxing.

Sevv: the size restrictions aren't your account personally, it's to keep the images from being too much for the crappier users. But they can turn them off.

A picture is worth a thousand words, no context is nothing at all, context is literature this is MY art~

Anyway no more talk about context, how I do my sigs is how i do my sigs, if you dont like it then you dont, these arent perfect, its not going to be liked by everyone.
