with all those rdms, where are the tanks to keep them from dying?

I would attend a con of that nature in full FFXI SAM garb if I had the means.
i would so dress as a nin or a pld just to go up to all the rdms and whms and ask them if they want a tank

my friend found some pictures of a japanese con where one guy was dressed like a mandragora. and in the background was a guy dressed in iron musketeer gear (sans armet).

that's disturbing. people who dress up like that who are over the age of 12 need their heads checked. oh, and i'd also hit it.
people do this because it's fun. it's not like they go out into the streets every day and do this as sonryoga says. maybe it's just you who lacks any sense of fun and imagination.

It reads "Ragnarok SUCKS Play Final Fantasy XI"
I ran into those RDMs at the AX con! Great stuff, especially since there was a huge booth for the Ragnarok game

what drives people to dress up like this?
WHA?! If you've ever been to a con like this you'll know how fun it can be. I wasn't dressed up like most of the people there were - kinda felt left out  :p
One of my fav was a guy from Japan, he made this Gundam costume that was about 7 ft tall!!!!
Try it out once - you may be surprised

SonRyoga --> I'm with you! I'm gonna cosplay for next year, but I not sure as what.

Sadeira --> So tru! gotta respect those tanks!!

Paco --> Osaka rules!!! (**Kagura TOO!**)

Let's see how many FFXI ppls we see next year!!!

If youd hit that skinny chick ..me thinks your head needs checking Shes called broke pockets.. you'd go broke feedin her @$$.
Its disturbing for people to judge others because they don't have fun the way cosplayers do.
I think people that go out every friday to get drunk is disturbing.. then brag about being "F'ed up " and smilin about it. But thats their thing.

These people come down for a 4 day a year vacation to an anime convention, when cosplay is highly encouraged. Why should they not dress up as an anime/game char?

I went to anime expo 2004, and if I had actually planned the trip in advance like I was going to, I may have made myself some sort of a costume for the masquarade.

Its not like these people are dressing like that everyday on the streets. They just do it for an anime convention where people think its cool to dress up like this, and many people ask for pictures

Maybe you're just not into messing around.
Smartest explaination heard in awhile

i didn't say they went into the streets dressed like that everyday. there's a yearly event called halloween where it is widely accepted to dress up in some sort of costume. i just find it silly that they're dressed like FFXI characters in the middle of a parking lot in broad daylight dancing around a foam rubber cactrot.

I like the white mage and the most left female red mage, they are the only ones who look decent, the others either have stupid expressions or just can't pose.

I went to Andress High School in El Paso, TX. We had a Senior Toga Day, Pajama Day, as well as various others following some theme. Nearly every single Senior took part in it, we all had our versions of a "Toga" on the entire day, we wore our "Pajama" of course had to be decent on Pajama Day, hell even a good majority took part in the Cross Day (Cross dressing that is :p ). Those were all for signified events just like you would if you were invited to a Costume Party (Aka. Masqurade).

It isn't a Halloween only thing to do stuff like that, though there is definatly something wrong if you didn't do for some specific purpose and the Cosplay had a specific purpose to do so. Nothing wrong with it.

EDIT:

You do know if a Work Place has a Hawaiian Shirt Day (Which mine does) at a much lower level you are doing the same thing still.
