If anyone has bought this, does it effect your chocobo outside of racing? ----------------------- Last edited by Durahansolo : 03-30-2007 at 08:55 AM. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 08:57 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Pink Mage Brain of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: Bastok/Illinois Posts: 1,575 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 152 Thanked 180x in 118 Posts Gil: 13,237 Bank: 72,571 Total Gil: 85,808 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye Probably... It's probably just SE's way of ruining the whole idea of breeding-for-color. Now everyone will be able to have w/e color bird they want as long as they can beat some sequence of relatively easy mission-type chocobo races.

It would suck to be showing off your "Red" chocobo in La Theine Plateau when a rain storm hits, then everybody realizes its just plain Yellow. ----------------------- | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 09:04 AM | #4 (permalink) | | Pink Mage Brain of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: Bastok/Illinois Posts: 1,575 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 152 Thanked 180x in 118 Posts Gil: 13,237 Bank: 72,571 Total Gil: 85,808 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye I'm hoping it's like a 30 minute deal that will be used by asshats to sell chocobo breeding cards--kinda like sand in the engine that car dealers use to sell lemon used cars.
Example:
1: Hop on chocobo.
2: Use dye.
3: Ride around and have fun.
4: Dye wears off.
Or maybe it's something you "feed" the bird. Buy one..... Then tell me. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 09:29 AM | #5 (permalink) | | J...atatouille Super Moderator Join Date: Dec 2002 Posts: 8,338 Style: Light - Version 5 My Mood: Thanks: 5 Thanked 136x in 106 Posts Gil: 26,043 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 26,043 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye
Used to see lots of these back in grade school... There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Given the video we've seen and the description of the item, chocobo dye is most likely that affects chocobo performance primarily, not looks. I was very irritated with the idea of having to find just the right egg(or hope I get a rare egg) and raise it in just the right manner just to get my black chocobo. This is purely by chance, he came from the only egg I've ever obtained, which was from the Chocobo on the Loose! quest. I really didn't care about color when I raised him, I just wanted a necklace and a fairly quick chocobo for fun times like coming back to Kazham from Yhoator XPing.
I'll be outrageously offended if these dyes are permanent.
Isn't the point of colored chocobos to be rare? If not...why the hell have we been riding only yellow chocobos from the stables, instead of the rainbow that you can breed?
All I can think of when I think of dyed chocobos are the asshats that roll down the freeway in their ghetto pimp cars with their Krylon paint jobs. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 02:56 PM | #10 (permalink) | | Junior Member Administrator Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 4,889 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 225 Thanked 660x in 337 Posts Gil: 14,534 Bank: 60,235 Total Gil: 74,768 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye I no longer believe that the way you raise your chocobo has anything to do with the color it turns out. I've seen a blue chocobo with maxed physical stats, another with maxed mental stats, a chocobo that was pampered every day that turned out black, and another that was forgotten for 3 months and turned out black also. It's all breeding and luck. If less of the former then more of the latter.
As someone who's raised 4 yellow chocobos, I don't know whether I'd be offended or relieved if the dye turned out to be a permanent thing. On the one hand, I'd get to stop rolling the dice and being disappointed, but on the other hand why did I even bother raising chocobos before dye was introduced? Then again, I know enough people with blue and black chocobos by now that I could probably get some cards for an egg with a very high chance of being what I wanted, so it would be pretty moot either way. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 03:09 PM | #11 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Posts: 122 Style: Light - Version 5 Thanks: 12 Thanked 9x in 7 Posts Gil: 626 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 626 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye Originally Posted by Taskmage | | Then again, I know enough people with blue and black chocobos by now that I could probably get some cards for an egg with a very high chance of being what I wanted, so it would be pretty moot either way. | Somehow I think this is the problem most people going for colors aren't facing.
If you're constantly buying NPC eggs, or doing the quest, or whatever...yes, it's a crapshoot. Let's go back to basic science: ELIMINATE ALL OF THE VARIABLES POSSIBLE!
I don't know about where you raise it, day it's turned in, how you raise it, etc. affecting color...but christ, if you can get 2 cards you KNOW FOR A FACT are a given color (Kamp Kweh is a good thing! If a seller won't go there with you (yes, you'd have to have a chocobo. Use one of your yellow throwaways.), don't buy their card!), we know that gives an exponentially higher chance of getting that color...I just don't understand why you wouldn't do so if that's your goal. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 03:31 PM | #12 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 536 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 7x in 5 Posts Gil: 1,775 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,775 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye They just added that Camp Kweh junk two-three weeks ago. Honestly, it is not hard AT ALL to find two colored cards. If you get a black card and a black card, your chocobo has a 98% chance to be black. If your two black cards gave a yellow chocobo, you had really, really bad luck. If your 10 black chocobo cards gave 5 yellow chocobos, altana hates you. | Originally Posted by Ellipses | | Really, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why." December 19, 2006 patch notes, where it lists Kamp Kweh as being added. Anyone that has been raising a chocobo since then would be near auto-retirement. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 04-02-2007, 09:48 PM | #15 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Posts: 16 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 166 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 166 Donate | Re: Chocobo Feather Dye i'm pretty positive the dye i temporary.. but i don't know for how long.. i havnt bought onw because my chocobo is red and i don't want to waste 50 bucks for a diffrent color, i currently have 54. i don't think square would make it permanent... i PERSONALY think that you should be able to buy accesories for your chocobo.. like a cool sadle or some ankle bracers, maby some armor or a helmet.. you know.. to look cool... orr like win them in high steak official races.. i'm tired of everyones chocobo looking SOOO similar... everyone has the SAME sadle, only differance is maby an altered color :/ i also think that when riding a chocobo, its personality would show through.. like if you were sitting on a very patient chobi, it would just look around.. all contentand such, where as an ill temp one might scratch the ground and shake its head open it beak evernow and then.. look impation.. :/ gahh i just wantt he chocobos to have more emotion and.. well just more o.o... is that asking too much? >.< prolly...
