Hot and Cold with Abilities
In my post regarding the Chocobo Hot and Cold game (Whats this chocobo hot & cold game?) I said that certain Chocobo Abilities (Burrow, Bore, and Treasure Finder) would affect Chocobo Hot and Cold.

Well, I am pleased to announce that my newest bird (3rd gen, mental focused) has FINALLY learned Treasure Finder and Bore.

Unfortunately, I am rather dissatisfied with the results, but I am more than willing to share with you all exactly what impact these abilities have.

Firstly, if you are unfamiliar with Chocobo Hot and Cold, then perhaps you should refer to the link above.

Treasure Finder

This ability is built pretty specifically for chocobo hot and cold it seems. The ability is supposed to make it easier to find the chest. However, it doesn't do it by giving you directions. It just seems to give you a new indicator while searching.

Example:

This a crude representation of the bull's eye type zones that your chocobo can sense while digging in Hot and Cold WITHOUT the Treasure Finder ability.

Pink: ...
Blue: Kweh.
Yellow: (The treasure is close)
Red: (Right on top of it!)

However, with the Treasure Finder ability, the picture changes a bit because we add a new zone to the area.

Pink: ...
Blue: Kweh.
Green: Kweh?!
Yellow: (The treasure is close)
Red: (Right on top of it!)

With the addition of the new zone, the area doesn't seem to get any larger, and unfortunately, the (The treasure is close) zone doesn't seem to get any smaller around the (Right on top of it!) zone.

Anyone have any clue if Treasure finder affects normal digging?

Treasure finder seems learnable at Average Discernment.

Bore:

Bore is used not only in the Hot and Cold game, but it can also affect digging results while normally digging (With Gysahal Greens).

It seems though, that the Bore ability makes it so you can dig up the chest in one less dig now.

Example:

In Jugner, Meriphataud, and Pashhow, it takes 6 digs to pull up a chest after you have pin pointed (You are Right on top of it).

With Bore:

Digging up the same chest with the Bore ability only takes 5 digs once you are (Right on top of it).

This ability seems to be learnable at either Outstanding or First-Class Discernment (Before I started caring for the day, it was outstanding, after learning the ability, it had bumped up to first class).

Conclusion:

In my opinion, it isn't worth wasting a spot on Treasure Finder. The hot and cold game isn't too difficult as is. Bore is an OK ability if you are an avid chocobo digger.

Does anyone have any info on Burrow and it's effect on Hot and Cold?

Re: Hot and Cold with Abilities
I have treasure finder and bore also. Ever since I got treasure finder I've been getting "You're right on top of it" message on the third or sometimes even the second dig. As a result I think it does increase the acceptable radius from the treasure chest where you can dig and still hit it. It's either that or I've had an incredible run of luck.

I will agree with you on one point, though. The Hot and Cold game is easy enough without Treasure Finder once you've figured out how to do it, so unless you're having a lot of trouble with it, Treasure Finder is a wasted slot.

Edit: The wiki says this about the treasure finder message: "[The] Kweh? message only appears if chocobo has Treasure Finder trait. It means you are getting cold in the direction you're going. If you see this message, either turn around or make a left or right turn from that spot."

Btw, Bore is learnable at Outstanding. That's when my bird got it.
