Whats this chocobo hot & cold game?

How do you play it?

There is are 2 new NPCs (Well, new from the last version update) near each of he city stables. One of them is for the new Kamp Kweh, and the other is for Hot and Cold. Speaking to the one for Hot and Cold will give you a dialog about why the game was being implemented (Quite humorous in Windurst by the way). At the end, you will be given 3 things; 2 key item Chocographs and 1 clump of T. Wildgrass.

Now, armed with your new wildgrass, you need somehow get to one of the following areas:

La Thiene Plateau
Konschtat Highlands
Tahrongi Canyon
Meriphataud Mountains
Pashhow Marshlands
Jugner Forest

Once in one of these areas, use your T. Wildgrass as an item and the map will come up for the area. On the map, a green marker will show up to tell you the general area where the treasure is located. Hitting Enter (X Button) will exit the map and will call your chocobo (The one currently registered for your chocobo whistle).

Move your bird to the area of the ??? marker on your map. Select yourself, click enter (X Button) then choose dig from menu that pops up.

This is NOT like choco digging. You DO NOT need Gysahl greens to dig for this event.

As you dig, you will get one of several messages:

... - You are not within "Range" of the treasure

Kweh - You are within a certain range of the treasure, but still a bit away from it.

Kweh!! (The Treasure is Close) - You Are very close to the treasure. Only make small movements now to find it.

KWEH!!!! (You are right on top of it!!!) - You have found the treasure! Continue digging in this spot until you have unearthed the chest. In the "Crag" areas, it will take 4 total digs with this message to find the chest. In the other areas, it will take 6 total digs with this message to find the chest.

You only have a certain number of tries to find the chest. Maybe 15, but it could be tied to endurance or some other factor. Once you have used up around 2/3 of your dig attempts, you will get a message saying your chocobo seems Fatigued. Once you have used up your dig attempts for the day (Found the treasure or not) you can not try again until the next day (After JP midnight).

Treasures seem pretty Mediocre. I have received many many silver sharks, a titanictus, a glass sheet, a couple handfuls of dragon scales, mushroom locusts, parasite worms, gregarious worms, celerity salad, saltwater sets, freshwater sets... In addition, since the last update, you seem to get 2 items a dig now (In the non crag areas at least) and the second item always seems to either be a choco food or something that can be used in celerity salad (Blue Peas).

There are 3 abilities that are supposed to help with Hot and Cold:

Burrow and Bore - Take fewer tries to dig up a treasure?
Treasure Hunter - Find the chest easier?

I truly hope this helps. This a fun little diversion that seems more than anything to be a free introduction to chocobo digging.

So you just need to go to the spot and the Chocobo will just call off if you're closer to the spot to dig right?

When you get to the spot, you will have to keep using the dig command. You will have to use the messages to figure out where to go. You will only get a message when you dig, so you will have to dig to figure out where you need to head.

This is a pretty nice simple game. I got dragon meat on one of my digs too.

Wow, that's nice. I almost never have any problems getting the chest. I average probably 6 out of 7 a week, I just get cruddy results. Like the silver shark I got again last night.
