Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
OMG, MY CHOCOBO HATCHED!

Ladies and Gentlemen of Vana'diel, say hello to RedVelvet, my cutie pie, chocobo girl.

Strength, Endurance, Discernment, Receptivity: Poor
Affection: Likes being around me
Easy-going Personality
Likes clear weather, doesn't mind any weather

I'm gonna take her on two more walks (took her on one) and update this post.

Edit:
Took her on two more walks. Her health is about 1/4. Wasn't able to feed her, she's still full. But I bought like two cheap stacks of Az and Gyshal greens, and a couple of Vomp Carrots.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Hey. My female chick got substandard STR on day 11. Then I feed her carrot paste, took her walking, check again and her STR went back down to poor....

I had the same thing (as I mentioned earlier in the thread) and I was only doing one short walk + watch over per day. Strength went back up to Substandard the next day though, and has been there since. I'm on day 15 or 16 just now (can't remember, only just woke up >.> ).

I have heard that those who celebrate life
walk safely amongst the wild animals.
When they go into battle, they remain unharmed,
the animals find no place to attack them
and weapons are unable to harm them.
Why? Because they find no place for death in them.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
The health ar of my Chick is drastically low. Uhm. What? I took her on 3 walks. Then I figured out you have to trade food to the VCS dude. She ate the carrot, but then when I traded the Az Greens, it said she was forcing it down.

And her health hasn't moved. I'm guessing that she'll be hungry later today (5pm EST seems to be the time when it's been like 24 hours) so I'll check again later to see if she's hungry.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Oh my! I think you've overfed her. She'll probably have a stomach ache tomorrow. Her stamina bar will not refill until the next day unless you feed her a special energy food such as a Cupid Worm, Gregarious Worm, or Chocolixir. Buy some Garidav Wildgrass....you'll probably need it tomorrow. Remeber to check your chocobo's attributes before you feed. It will tell you if she is hungry or not. Just remember, use up the entire bar daily and then feed her until the handler tells you she's full.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
I actually took to of my crafting mules, and set up 10 pots each in them to grow chocobo food. Worked pretty well and I have an ample supply for now, with the exception of the worms.

Anyways, I'm actually going the route of specialization for the time being. I'm still working on my first bird to max out his endurance. I've already bred him with a friends bird which had "a bit deficient" strength at the time, and using the strength honeymoon package a.k.a Gourmet Honeymoon, created my 2nd generation egg. This egg is going to be specialized in Strength and in an experiment of itself I'm going to try for the new Green Jenny birds that SE should have just added in this update, but thats beside the point.

Once I have my bird with maxed out strength, and bird with maxed out endurance, I'll start to play around with combinations of the two. The hard part will be to get a male and female which I can breed that have different max stats, because the strength honeymoon is supposed to enhance the chamces of a male bird. I may have to play around with my endurance bird first to see if I can get a female version of it.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Think of it like this. Your chocobo has an energy bar, and a food bar. You fill up the food bar by trading feed to the handler, but there's nothing you can do to immediately affect the energy bar short of possibly a chocolixer. Celerity Salads do not "instantly restore energy" despite what the item description says. -_- I've tried. Anyway, every 24 hours marked from the time you traded your egg, points will get moved from your food "bar" to your energy bar. If you used up half your chocobos energy, it will probably go from half an energy bar but completely full to a full energy bar but neither hungry nor full. If you used up almost all your chocobos energy it will go from completely full to starving.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Have to check everytime before you feed more food. If it's already completely full don't feed more.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Ok, So I checked at 5:30EST

It was "a bit under the weather," so I gave it a bit of Tokopekko Wildgrass.

Then I fed it 1 Vomp Carrot, and instead of Starving, it went to "neither hungry nor full."

After 1 Az Green, it went to "Completely Full." So as opposed to someone above me who said that they fed it 1 Carrot and 2 Az Greens, it seems that the Tokopekko counted as a meal.

So ok, I won't feed it again today. It had full Stamina (thanks for the clarification, people!) so I took it on 3 short walks. It looked like it had plenty enough stamina for 1 more, but whatever -_- *grumble grumble*

After that, I watched over it 6 times, all the times it said that "it doesn't look very happy..."

Status said that it still liked me a lot, so oh well.

Was one Tokopekko grass sufficient?

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
When the chick is sick, it will not look so happy regardless of how much it loves(or hates) you. 1 Toko grass should be more than enough to get it back in shape ^^b

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Yeah, if you need to know chocolixir and gregarion worms both raise that Health bar after they consume it. They are immediate effects and do fill up the chocobo's hunger. You must give the chocolixir or worm when they are not already full, if you do then you just waste money.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
I think the Celerity Salad, according to the Chocobo info dude and FFXIClopedia, is not for energy, but for sickness. If your chocobo has some sort of malady, say a game leg, a tummy ache, or is puking razorblades, you can feed it this to get rid of the status instantly instead of waiting until the next day. This may serve to improve direct care effectiveness for the day. If your chocobo is sick, and you have Celerity Salads, you might consider feeding this before running your care cycle.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
I think the description that the chocoboys give for Celerity Salad is "Treats most status abnormalities and restores instant health," hence the confusion there. The former is true, but the latter is certainly not. Even if they were referring to the status effect, you still have to wait a full day for the chocobo to recover just like using tokopekko or gausebit, so instant is far from accurate.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Hmmm... well, I don't really see a useful purpose for it if you still have to wait a day. It has so many ingredients and is difficult to make, so it would be more economical to treat the malady with a specific herbal remedy. Perhaps it does something not readily apparent...
