Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
LOL. I was using 20 pots, then 40 pots, and I think I might go back to Saplings after my next run of 40 b/c I expect prices for normal stuff to be low enough that it's not worthwhile to grow instead of buy and you can always just go get gouged when your choco gets sick or injured. Gausebit Grass is actually plummeting on Asura, down 7k per full stack and 500gil per ea. over the last 25 according to FFXIAH. I paid 3k each for them when I did Chocobo Quest and they're at 2.5k now which means that since the economy has been deflating, the increase in Grass use has helped it retain its value (in single form, not in stack form).

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Add: For reference, for anyone else who wants to grow, Wildgrass Seeds are only like 9k a stack, so in addition to making crazy uber money off of Chocobo food, here is what I'm going to do.

Brass Flowerpots (x10)
Tokopekko Wildgrass - Water Cystals
Gausebit Grass - (Eff it, I'll just buy this stuff)
Azouph Greens - Lightning Crystals
Vomp Carrots - Earth Crystals.

I planted them all on Lightning Day, Wazing Gibbous (60%), so let's hope that I get the target, instead of the kajillion alternatives that are possible.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
I had been feeding my chick 1 vomp carrot a day and either 2 sharug, 2 azouph, or 2 gysahl greens. Not too long after it became an adolescent it got Substandard Strength, and the next day Substandard Endurance. Yesterday on day 26 LunarDestroyer had A Bit Deficient Strength. Today on day 27 she got A Bit Deficient Endurance. So hopefully i can get her up to at least average strength for breeding purposes.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
You can continue breeding a chocobo even after it's retired. Breeding a full-grown retired chocobo with absolute maxed stats will probably be the most popular kind of breeding. Of course, you'll find that your chocobo becomes interested in breeding long before that. Breeding a retired chocobo is done by trading your VCS Registration Card (that you get at retirement) with one of the Chocobo Handlers. He'll give you the option to set your chocobo whistle to call your chocobo or to purchase a Chococard for mating.

Yep, this is my second chocobo, i retired my first at around day 40 i believe. I think the retirement cutscene that plays is a bit depressing .

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
I think carrots are worth growing. Both carrots are going for 50+k per stack on Titan. 10 pots usually give me 1 and a half stack of carrots.

Greens are going for 4k/stack... >.> I just buy them.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Carrots are at 20k (Vomp) 30k (Zeg) per stack on Asura and Cupids are 35k per worm, 30k/Gregarious and 15k/Parasite so the Worms are much more expensive on Asura. I'd much rather buy carrots than worms since I'm getting roughly 135k per harvest on Cupids (though I don't sell them) and only about 15k per harvest on Carrots.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Just some FYIs...

Wildgrass Seeds - Buy these from the NPC @ the southern dock in Whitegate for ~320 gil each. If you can't get them yourself, chances are you know someone who can. Much cheaper than buying from the AH.

Gausbit Grass - The only non-synthed choco-food that can't be grown by Wildgrass Seeds. I think SE may have increased the droprate of this from the Crane Flys in Meriphataud. With TH1 my husband and I got ~4 stacks just running around a bit. These are good since the chocobo can get injured on the more vigorous Care Plans.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
They always had a high drop rate, but were non-stackable before chocobo raising was added, which made them a pain to farm.

Work care plans - packages, messages etc. - do have a significant impact on affection, which needs to be counterbalanced by personal care, or not using them too much (preferably both). The rest care plan is unnecessary as long as you are feeding the chocobo regularly, I think it's more intended for those "I'm going to be out of town for a week" situations. When you can't show up and feed your chocobo all the time, alternating between more strenuous care plans and rest would keep the chocobo from becoming exhausted.

All this is useful for *raising* a speedy chocobo, but I was kind of expecting the title to be about *breeding*... unfortunately it's probably too early to say anything much about chocobo genetics yet. (Is it known yet whether or not two black/blue parents will definitely produce a black/blue chick?)

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Day 3, I check it at least 5 times a day. Egg is vibrating and the chick is "Anxious to meet me."

Thanks for all the input people, we'll have a new addition to the family soon! Now only if I could figure out what to name it.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
wow my egg never says anything other than it "wants out."

If you use the resting, that's what cause the chocobo to sleep right? Hopefully it will wake up correctly now....

Yeah, mine either. I wonder if they just changed the wording on it. For example, my chocobo now has an "easygoing" personality and likes "clear" weather, which seems like it replaced the "no personality" and "no weather" messages.

Jei, according to the patch notes whenever you use the Rest plan your chocobo should always wake up when the plan ends now.

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
>_< I made 2 mistake on 2 chocobo these few days.

On my main, my chocobo can always take 3 short walks and still has around 1/3-1/4 health left. But last night I thought my chocobo counted new day and gave it food. But it turned out it was still full and "forcing itself to eat." The next day, he was only able to take 2 walks and his health went down to 1/10...

On my mule, the chocobo just got sick for some reason. I didn't overworked her, no idea why. When she healed, her personality shifted from easy going to military ill-tempered...

Re: Breeding a Speedy Chocobo
Mine dropped from "Ill-Tempered" (Military) back to "Patient" (Packages) yesterday also marking his Adolescence yesterday. He's yellow like his mommy instead of black like his daddy, but it is really the care plan and scores I'm more interested in anyway.
