Care plan/doing it youself

I've been wondering by taking it on short walks myself is it possible to raise it's stats? Or should I be using the care plan? ATM I keep it at basic care, since that tend to heal her back to full it's fine with me(though she's sick atm so rest is needed).

The basic care plan isn't what's refreshing their stamina, it's making sure it's fed. If you still believe it's the basic care plan doing it, then don't feed your bird a day and then check it's stamina.

Optimal care for you chocobo to raise specific stats is to use a care plan geared for what you want, coupled with the proper care you give it yourself, and supplying it the right food.
