ok murph thnx u've been a real help to me and yay i finally got the game i have the expansions that come with the collection installed and i'm gunna wait and install the 3rd one tommorrow i just kinda wanna get in the game and make a char.

When you choose "Compete against others," to race the three arrogant trainers, your chocobo's name doesn't appear above its head.

Yes, it is true that your chocobo's name doesn't appear over its head in cutscenenes. However, one thing I noticed about the cutscenes that are involved with chocobo raising (including the quest to get the chocobo egg) is that in all the cutscenes, none of the NPC's names appear over their heads. I'm not sure why though, is it like this in the Treasures Aht Urghan cutscenes too? Still haven't been there yet.

So just because chocobos names don't appear above their heads during cutscnes doesn't necessarily mean that it won't appear above their heads when their fully grown and we can call them on the field. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Honestly, I don't care if the name of my choco will be above her head at any time. She has a name that I gave her, that's good enough for me. I imagine that the Chocobo name might be on the whistle you use to call her. Would be moderately useful.

If you're wondering how it would be useful, imagine months down the road and you have raised a couple chocobos. You have two retired, and you have a chocobo whistle with 10 charges left. Then you take a break from the game for say, a few weeks.

When you come back, you may have forgotten which retired chocobo you have registered on the whistle. If the name of the registered chocobo was on the whistle, you'd be all set.

Why would it matter? Let's say you want to use chocobo #2's special learned ability in Yhoater Jungle. You grab your choco whistle and get a Teleport-Yhoat. You call your chocobo and behold, it's not choco #2, it's #1. Chocobo #1 does not have that ability, so you now need to warp back to Jeuno and register Chocobo #2 with the VCS. You've wasted time and gil for the tele.
