Sony Places Bet on 3D Movies, TV and Games - PC World as long as its imax style 3D, it'd be epic. If I have to put on Red/Blue glasses to see it, then I won't be doing that. I tried to watch "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D" on blu-ray, and my eyes got tired after about 20 mins. I ended up switching back to regular for awhile, and then switching back to 3D near the end.

By the way speaking of 3D displays I'd have to repeat what I've said before about the feature that interests me the most. Which is being able to display 2 video sources on the same display.

That would make multiplayer games much better since you'd be able to forget about split screen.

Among other very practical benefits like being able to watch TV with your significant other without actually having to suffer through the latest soap opera. <_<;

Doesn't affect me. I can't really see in 3D, bad eyes and all that. I can see where it would really be appealing in a gaming situation though. The thing that pops into my head is playing Silent Hill and the shit popping out at you and scaring you so badly that you screw up and die. LOL

You'll need glasses, and Sony wants to produce PS3s with this capability, meaning... you'll probably end up buying a new PS3 sometime soon even if you already have within the past few weeks.

At a gaming convention I went to they were showing Batman Arkham Asylum in 3D on the Xbox. They were using a projector so I would think you would have to buy a projector instead of a new machine.

That would make more sense to buy a projecter, but its more money bussiness wise to have to buy a new machine. But then again... They might make a "Special" Projector (AKA name brand, nothing really special about it) for a few hundred.

IIRC, the G-Force game was in 3-D, and came with a few pairs of 3-D glasses. I'm sure the movie was good, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to play with those damn red/blue goggles on for long. Then at the CES Nvidia brought out those 3-D glasses to convert some PC games to 3D. I think there is a thread floating around about that on here, and those glasses are 199 or 299, I can't remember which.

From what I've been reading its sounds like the current incarnation of the PS3 can be upgraded through firmware to handle it, but more than likely you will need a new display. You can do the red/blue thing on normal tvs, take the super bowl commercials this year for instance. However, I think they're going to end up doing opposite polarization and use the higher end glasses. Havent seen anything using the polarization stuff in about 10 years when I was last at Disney World, but from what I remember it works pretty well.
On a related note: BDA just came out with set specs for anyone making 3d BD's. They will be required to put a 2d version of the film on the disc for those that dont have new enough displays or players.

Shutter glasses don't require a 3D display, just high refresh rates.

Edit > Meh, I was reading about it and they are going with shutter glasses rather than polarization (IMAX 3D).

Edit +1 > The PS3 could work the same way with a regular LCD TV and USB/bluetooth shutter glasses, depending on the refresh rate.

Back in the 80's there was a movie called The Last Dragon. With a black kid who thought he was asian named Bruce Leeroy. Well another black man who thought he was the top dog, The Shogun, was always trying to fight him. In one of the scenes where he first comes in into the movie theater, he was wearing shutter glasses.
