The Watchmen

So I'm freaking stoked about this movie coming out next month. I had heard that this comic was so epic that there was an industry wide "agreement" that this comic would not get made into a movie, becauase there's no way a movie could do the comic justice. Has anyone else heard rumblings of the same? If this is true, it must mean that the special effects / storyline of this movie have to be insane. The fact that it's coming out in IMAX theatres just make it even that more epic.

Re: The Watchmen

I have heard they tweeked the ending, but I don't remember where so that might be fake. I just know if that's so there are going to be a lot of geeks out there (no insult, I am one of said geeks, I fucking hated what they did to Phoenix in the last X-man movie) who will be ready for blood.

Even though this is not my favorite story, I can't wait to see it.

There was no agreement, but the original writer was against making this movie from the start. Not because of anything to do with effects or graphics or anything, but because the pacing, story telling and just overall emotional content of this comic would be too much to cram into a 2-3 hour film and have it come out intacked. As is they've had to cut massive amounts of the original story from the film to get it to work right, but even so it should be an excellent movie unlike any other comic book movie to date.

Re: The Watchmen

Yeah, I knew nothing about the story line, but sitting in the IMAX theatre and watching the trailer gave me chills... I guess that's a good thing about not reading, you're never let down by a movie not stacking up against the book.

You should have noticed a trend the last coupla years. Only every blockbuster movie has 3 to 4 scenes shot in imax now days. IMAX used to be cool, something called :HI DEF: now that everything is hi def, IMAX is basically :HIGHER HI DEF:.

Look up a list of movies that have been in IMAX the last three years, and it won't seem that much of a big deal anymore lol. When I saw 300 in IMAX, cuz it was like the first movie to start the trend I was unimpressed, and still am after seeing batman. Basically no difference from the movie in a normal theatre. Good that tickets are only 10 bucks tho in my area, about he same as the normal theatre.

I"m still stoked tho, and Will see it in theatres.

I highly disagree, unless my IMAX is just that much better than yours, which it could be. The one I goto is in San Diego, the picture quality is a bit better than a normal theatre, it's pretty close, I'll give you that. The main difference is the size of the screen and the sound. Now they were bragging prior to the last batman movie about the NEW soound system and the added speakers, but it was KICK ASS! Way better than a normal theatre. So yeah, visual details, a bit more higher def, but the sound system is where it's at as well as the larger screen.

Perhaps mine Does suck lol. The screen isn't that much bigger and the sound is great, but not enough to make a huge difference for me lol. Thats what I get for living in a town with 100k people and thinking its massive lol.

Re: The Watchmen

I'm satisfied watching these movies on a crappy 16in TV/VCR combo with a crappy buzzing noise if you turn the volume too high, so I never really cared much about the difference in seeing something in Imax or not. I just want a good movie, and this one looks to deliver.

Ya the Imax here has seats that move, vibrate, etc to give you an " Immersive experience ". I personally can't do a lot of movies in the Imax theatre though. I get motion sickness. LOL

Re: The Watchmen

Yeah we got shakes and slighty shifting walls, and a relatively wrap around screen in the imax here, but our new theatre in town has basically the same thing with step tier seats that are like recliners, so i think our new theatre is just really bad ass, and the imax is just normal.

Re: The Watchmen

The movie theatre that our IMAX is in already has HD Projectors for the regular movies. So the IMAX just has like a 100 foot screen. The only thing I hate about it is, if you don't get there early you'll have a broken neck from staring up. I went to the earliest show to see Batman Begins lol. I've only been a few times and after seeing Beowulf like that, I refused to buy it on Blu-Ray.

Re: The Watchmen

I don't know how it's going to be. I bought the watchmen hardback before I came over here to afghan, and I've read it like 4 times, cause it's just that damn thought provoking. It isn't all about bad ass fights, or crazy plot twists (although it has a few), it's about being human. It has so much depth that If the movie does anything, I hope it inspires people to read the book. That's all I can hope for.

Re: The Watchmen

Went by Barnes and Noble the other day to by it and they didn't have it. Now I'm patiently waiting for Amazon to deliver it. Heard so many good things that I'm really looking forward to reading it and seeing it in theaters.
