The horror of another Street Fighter Movie

I was just looking over The Magic Box site ... seems a few days ago they mentioned "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li" would be released early next year. I'm kinda scared, yet at the same time, the casting actually seems somewhat decent:

Kristen Kruek as Chun Li... kinda scrawny for Chunny, but she's cute enough.

Neil McDounough as M. Bison, pretty much a dead-ringer for the guy.

Micheal Clarke Duncan as Balrog, he's a bit huge for a Tyson knock off, but decent pick.

Taboo from BEP as Vega... WOOOOOOOSH, total miss. Vega is a spaniard, not a rapper.

Robin Shou as Liu Kan... er... Gen. Kinda young for the part, but you barely recognize him.

Well, that's an 80% score on casting.

Chun Li was one of the few SF characters with a story to care about. Her motive is, quite frankly, vengence. The question remains if it will be a good movie though. Justin Marks is the writer and one of his inspirations for his approach to writing the movie was the first X-Men flick. X-Men was about Wolverine and how he met all these other mutants, at the end of the day, though, it was Wolverine's story - that's kinda the approach they're going for. You may or may not see all the other fighters in the movie.

Seems like an interesting angle to go at it.

Still probably going to suck, but its nice to see someone actually trying to make a good game movie this time. Take notes, Uwe.

Re: The horror of another Street Fighter Movie

This is a THE real Street Fighter movie.

Edit > They really need to stop with the real action movies. Not even wire-fu would be able to do it any justice. ; ;

Re: The horror of another Street Fighter Movie

I sincerely doubt I'd ever see it, good or bad. Video game cinema is just not my cup of tea. But I guess this is good news for old fans of the series who really, really want another film. Though again, why, after the previous effort(s) have been so disappointing, I'll never understand.

Re: The horror of another Street Fighter Movie

A bad movie can't destroy a good story. It's like asking why they'd make Batman Returns after the failue of Batman and Robin. Movies will reach more people then the games, so making feature films, especially ones that come out decent, will only serve to increase the brand. And in this particular time where Hollywood is reaching out for stories, and game, comic and anime creators are reaching out for larger audiences, things like this will be continued to be made.

"Hollywood" seems to be doing just fine as far as I've seen. But I'm not trying to argue a point or anything. I'm just curious why fans would be interested. Then again, scraps are often better than nothing.

Chun Li was always my favorite SF character (and this is ever since childhood, so I somehow doubt it's the sex appeal), so I guess I'll probably have to give it a look sometime, even if it is terrible.
