| Re: Transformers Movie
I really enjoyed the movie. After about 30 minutes I was completely over Bumblebee being a Camero, and this was a big issue to me in the beginning. A VW Bug just could not have been bad ass enough. The alien concept was odd and refreshing at the same time. It did seem like they wanted them to stand out as aliens as much as they could, making complete sense, but at times it did seems like "let's make it look more alien." I guess the real test comes down to round 2. The rest test of a movie comes when you watch it the 2nd time. If you still think it's an awesome movie then, then it's good. I dunno how many times I've seen a movie I thought was sweet a second time and left disappointed. Then there are movies like the original Matrix that I saw 7 times in 5 days.

As a LONG time fan of TFs, I loved the movie. Though that doesn't mean there were things I didn't like. *Note: Spoilers ahead* First off was Jazz. He was, and still is, one of my favorite 'bots ever, but in the movie he was just off. His voice sounded more 'gangsta rapper' then the smooth talkin bot he was. Second, his death was way too short and underdone. Though this was stated as being because some scenes had to be cut and/or totally skipped due to time restraints and costs. He was supposed to be the third most notable autobot, which is why he was 'chosen' to die, but he just didn't have a chance to connect with the audience. Then there's the fact the 'cons didn't get any characterization, which is sad because they're actually supposed to be some pretty cool characters. Though Brawl(the Tank, and another lil problem with the film) and Bonecrusher (the Buffalo Minesweeper truck that fights prime on the bridge) aren't exactly the brightest of characters, they both seemed pretty fun in the prequal comics/novel/online bios. But with no lines from either of them, they were no better then drones. And of course Starscream got way too little to say, but him and Barricade(the cop car) should be back in the second film with a lot more lines. Megatron and Frenzy on the other hand were great, both of them full of life and attitude. Comments like making sam his 'pet' and flicking the human on the street were nice lil touches, and the lively lil Frenzy was surprisingly fun to watch. Makes me wonder if his brother Rumble will be just as energetic. And I didn't really have a problem with Blackout not talking, he's supposed to be quiet. And as I mentioned before, the mess up with the tank's name, either intended or accidental, was still kinda off putting. Not only does it contridict ALL of his current and future merchandise it creates continuity problems with bringing in the iconic Decepticon combiner team, the Constructicons(who were mentioned above), who connect together to create the awe inspiring giant Devastator. Who was mentioned by one of the producers as being possible in a sequal(along with some Dinobots). But overall, those minor complaints will *not* keep me from seeing this film again in the theater, and I have *never* seen the same film twice in a theater. And seeing as this movie is raking in millions world wide, breaking numerous(though admitedly minor) records and pleasing fans and non-fans alike, I would far from call this a bad movie. It does it's job of entertaining it's target audience enough to have people come back for repeat viewings and cheer in the theaters. This film is definately Transformers through and through, and with it being this popular the sequels will have a lot of room to step things up. There are *tons* of big names and bigger bots that can be used, and with no need for long intros anymore, the real stars of this franchise should be able to take center stage with little problem.

Anyways, yea I agree on Jazz getting knocked out like that. Starscream, still my fav for going against Megatron. Barricade and Frenzy when they were in focus abosolutly great! Though, the Brawl kind of reminded me of Armada's Megatron cause cause of the vehical mode. At the same time, makes me think of Tidal Wave. (Hears echoing, "Tidal Wave, Tidal Wave... Transform!") I wonder if they'll be a secret campaign to make "human" transformers like along the lines of maximals/predicons, or if we see a Side Ways from Armada reappearing. But, I'd rather see "Grimlock, leader of the dinobots" make a full come back.

I noticed a few things I thought were "off" as well, but it's a movie. If it was true to the original it would have been 4 hours long - as much as I like long movies, nobody else would have sat through it. I thought their size was pretty good though I thought Optimus should have been taller. He was so much larger due to the Creation Matrix and I thought he should have actually been bigger than Megatron. Only one I thought really just didn't look good was Starscream. I was really unimpressed with his design. The change in Jazz actually made sense to me. In the 80's he was the yuppie sports car dream. Huge stereo, extra treble and rock & roll. These days it's bass and rap that's replaced the rock riffs and have you seen that Solstice? I'd equate that to the 935 Turbo of the '80s in all out sweet sports car appeal. **SPOILERS** I also had issue with the final "boss fight," fight was just too one sided to me. Even with Prime's pacifist issues, the fight should have been far more even. I know you can't make the main hero so bad ass nobody can touch him and he kicks the villains butt in seconds, but you can't water him down either.

@ TDH Yeah, I was upset to see what happened in that fight. I mean, they damn near quoted from the 1980s movie, but it was drastically less epic.

I didn't think the fight was very 1 sided, but it just ended out of a sudden.... out of no where.

I just keep thinking back to the '80s, watching the cartoon and seeing the Decepticons basically go "OH SHIT!! Optimus Prime is here!" They run in all directions, or call in Megatron or the Constructicons (Which were all manor of awesome, btw) to handle the Big Dog. ** MORE SPOILERS ** (I'll stop this after this post. Don't wanna run the movie for anybody.) Optimus always seemed to hold back, but he could always keep Megatron at bay. That wasn't the case in that final scene. One or more of the comic book series suggested that Prime had some serious self doubt issues that are hinted at in his orders to Sam should he fail. But it seemed like he just knew there was no way he was going to defeat Megatron, showing none of the swagger he showed earlier when dispatching Bonecrusher. That just seemed off to me, and my only "major" gripe about the movie. ** SPOILERS OVER ** But again, I'm probably gonna put it to the 2nd viewing test tomorrow. If the movie is still sweet after seeing it the 2nd time, then in my mind it's official & "I'm ready for my sequel Mr. Deville."

I was too busy going, "What the hell is this movie about" to read the credits and see if it mentioned a name for it. When I go watch it again, I'm going to try and pay closer attention to see if I can catch it. There's another Hulk movie in the works, and that's something the Hulk might do. haha But Marvel's too proud not to show their involvement in a movie so that's doubtful. I don't even remember the date it listed. But remember the last Godzilla movie? We saw a preview for it TWO YEARS in advance.

I watched Transformers with a couple of my friends on Sunday. I loved it. Very impressive movie. I had goose bumps throughout the entire movie. It's like living your childhood dreams again. Thought the only thing I missed from the cartoon and the movie was those Decepticon & Autobot Symbols whenever it changed between the Autobots & Decepticons. Oh and maybe the transformer noise. I went to watch it at the Arclight in Hollywood in the huge dome, and guess what was parked outside... ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh that movie that you guys are refering to is called Cloverfield, produced by J.J. Abrams, comming out 1.18.08. Last edited by Omniblast; 07-09-2007 at 03:36 PM. |
