DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

A friend of mine recently decided to try DRG/BRD. Interestingly enough, she had on Sanction Refresh while she tried it.

Result? She's been getting some light EXP and IS on Colibri and not having to stop to rest.

Her Max MP is around 151, Sanction gives her up to 139

She has BLU at 37, so it's capped as far as MP goes.

She buffs with Cocoon, and uses Foot Kick [Short cast, 5MP] as her Trigger spell. And yes, BLU spells will go off at 50% [AF hat] just like other mages.

Because of her low MP usage, and the refresh from Sanction, she never has to take a knee to recover MP.

I'd like to see another DRG take it a step further and get an Ethereal Earring, and try fighting harder things with this method.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

It's a Defensive Wyvern, just like /WHM, /BLM, and /RDM, so Healing Breath on magic and the status-effect-removal breath on weaponskills. I'd be surprised if the answer to the second question weren't "all."

You mean Drg/Blu

Interesting find, but Dragoon's have tried everything to sub. I guess BLU fits in the list of the actually usefull subs.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

As long as you don't go crazy and try to tackle things that can kill you in 1-2 hits the 'Perpetual DRG Solo' has been an option from level 68+ for a while, and gets a nice boost at 72 and 73.

I haven't tried DRG/BLU for real solo yet (just in Beseiged), but Cocoon for defense and headbutt/foot kick for trigger spells should work nicely. Since BLU physical skills are based on your acuracy with your current weapon, they can actually hit and have effect even as a half-level sub.

Just pull out your trusty Staff and go to work, using Spirit Taker to refill your MP as needed. At 72 we can use the Gavail set which adds +DEX, AGI or VIT on every piece and ~-8% Physical and Magical Damage (though we'd have our AF helm on usually). At 73 we can use the Kinkobo/Primate Staff which has excellent stats, particularly if you eat panamas to activate the latents.

Just avoid creatures that can zero your TP (like Colbri with Feather Tickle) and you can pretty much solo non-stop.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

Well DRG do a lot more damage with a Polearm, and TP reduction is only an annoyance, not an MP problem with this method.

I think it means that healing breath will activate at 50% hp with the af hat whenever you cast blue magic, like it does when you sub whm.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

So in other words, JumpBurn parties in Aht Urghan with sanction effects just became a nice alternative to wasting time on a "balanced" party? Heck, if you can solo like this, why bother with a party? I'll just get a buddy to sub WHM or RDM and we'll duo. If a third can sub BRD, the fun times will never end.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

I think a DRG PT could have fun EXPing off Marid...

Jump on the Chigoe when they spawn, and balance hate for curing.

And yes, by going off, I meant healing breath, sorry

How does sanction refresh actually work? I'm too nervous about spending IS to try it out for myself.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

Sanction refresh and /RDM too works on those.
i don't see Cocoon and other BLU spells replacing /RDM at all.
protect2, blazespikes (for the fun since i had alot of MP to waste), poison to trigger (fast and 5MP) and incase of danger super-jump Cure3 that's more than what /BLU gives in my opinion.
my MP was about 120/120 or less, DRG66/RDM.

Re: DRG/BLU ("We'll never ever stop!")

well the whole thing about cocoon is that it gives +50% defense boost even when subbed. For me that Is nearly a 180 boost. Its like protect 18 O_O

The blue mnage spells as trigger also work well with dragoon because blue spells are based on blue magic skill and your melee accuracy. Power attack is what i prefer as my trigger and its nice to do the damage and heal yourself while you do it. I'm liking /blu, but /whm is still hard to beat for free sneak and invisible.

Sanction refresh does NOT stack with SMN refresh. Also, take note: If you change jobs while you have Sanction refresh on, you lose refresh! My friend learned this the hard way when she tried to change her sub from SMN after discovering that the effects did not stack.
