I had a Ps3 since it came out and i noticed its ALOT like a computer but it just has different/more difficult ways of doing some things a computer could do and i just wanted to know is there anyway to get Altana View on a Ps3, i know you have to have FFXI installed on your comp to get Altana View to work and i do have FFXI installed on my Ps3 aswell so i just wanted to know if it was possible...

Or even Model Viewer...just want something like Model viewer or altana view to mess with on my Ps3. lol

I believe you'd have to have Linux installed to do something like that. Even then, it's unlikely the PS3 running Linux would be able to use a model viewer, as the system lacks the GPU's advanced rendering capabilties while running Linux.

No. Unless you're running FFXI on Windows, you can't use a model viewer, if you're on a PS3 you can't run Windows, only Linux. FFXI doesn't run on Linux.

Long story short: Get a 300-400$ PC if you want to screw around with FFXI's insides.

Well in theory IF there was a Model Viewer for *nix and, you did mod your PS3 to run *nix, It could be possible I would think. But Being that there is no, Model Viewer of any kind or program, for *nix that I know of, your kinda outta luck sorry

It still wouldn't be possible because you can't install FFXI on Linux...

FFXI only runs under the PS3's cross meda bar OS' PS2 emulator...not under Linux and I don't think Linux can access the installed PS2 data under that OS...

Well, It runs to a point on *nix using Wine

POL Viewer will run, you can update the game, but It ends up messing up at runnign the game. Which is likely Due to The mask it tries to force and run. Likely I think there is a good chance to run when they finnaly, patch it to run windowed.

Yeah but there's two problems with Wine and PS3 Linux:

1. Wine and the gaming half Cadgera only runs on x86 processors...where as the PS3's cell processor has a Power PC core...and won't run those...

2. Even if you got the game working...well sony is really dumb and disabled the PS3's video card while running linux (presumably to stop PS emulators) so no games for you.

You know this brought up a point to me. If you installed the game to the PS2 harddrive then pull the harddrive out and hook it up to a standard IDE rig would you be able to access the file system. And if so would you be able to manually move files in and out of it changing dats around, then just reinstall it into the PS2 and play? Or is the file system the PS2 installs on the harddrive unreadable by standard OS's?

file systems can't be made 'unreadable' by one device and readable by another, nothing in computers can, it's a matter of if they use a filesystem that exists outside Sony that other computers can access. I highly doubt Sony would go to the trouble of creating their own file system.

I guess I miss worded my comment. I should have said "Is the file system readable by standard OS's or is it Proprietary of the PS2."

Anyway, your basically saying its probably Fat32, or more logically one of the Unix based File systems (A Unix/Linux build was developed and released for the PS2 HDD after all). So Theoretically I'm correct in stating that we could try Dat swapping on the PS2, no ones just tried it yet for risk of breaking their system?

i have managed to actually "unhide" the Partition FFXI PS2 resides in (to a pc the PS2 FS isnt there hell standard windows tools/windows itself even Linux see it as an unformated Hard Drive, (and only saw this partition in an exploited PS2 [MC exploit]

but 1: i cant remember how i did it as i was messing with ps2 hd loader installs and did a "repair" and afterwards the Hard Drive wasnt showing up in PS2 Browser and the FFXI install became corrupt.

it seems however the Sony FileSystem is in a form of Partitioning.
using "MyPS2 0.5" (Homebrew) it seems each folder or Game installed is seen as a separate Partition, a folder outside a Game partition seems to show and behave like a PC's "Extended" Partition

and to quell anyones idea on viewing it on a PS2 Linux kit HDD
its hidden somewhere on the playonline site, that the PS2 Linux Kit HDD is incompatible w/ the installer discs, and still is

Granted liek most i'd love to see my modded Wyvern on my ps2, (went for Suzaku wyvern from ffxidats.com) but can only see it on my pc, and if atm least till ps3/360 then so be it
