I noticed in Altana View there is a lot of motions that are accessible through the Action section for PC (Player Users) but I've only seen NPC's do for instance, Naja Salaheem. Since they flow perfectly with PC as well, would it be possible to convert or replace those emotions with already existing emotes or make new ones so a player would put in a command such as /dance or /wave and it would do the motion/emote you converted it with?

i'm pretty sure you can but it has to be specific to your race(aka if its a mithra emotion you have to be a mithra), just a matter of finding what emote is what dat file, prob can find that out using dat viewer, gl and let me know if it works ^^

Well i just tried what you said and it wont work. If you overwrite the emotes with the motions even from the same race from NPC motions, the player wont do anything. There's gotta be a way to do this. I'm making a FFXI movie and i need more emotes.

Hallihallo Zigan If you take an emote from an NPC you have to copy all the original weapon and shield motions into the emote too or the weapons willl be displayed down at the floor. Example: Here the motion for the sword wasn't copied when moving the surprise motion from the NPC to PC. ![]() Nice Day Nomido |

Hmmm, I think I understand what you mean Namido, but how do you exactly do that? I mean you can't give an NPC a sword or any type of weapon, so how do you copy it over? And shouldn't my player at least be doing something other than just standing there? I think I need to know what exactly i'm doing here.

Hallihallo Zigan Macht wrote a guide about editing motions here in this forum: VRS Motion It may be a littlebit hard the first time (yes also here ;D) but when you know what you have to do it is just copy and paste. <(^_~) I know there is a thread in www.ffxidats.com forums about where to find wich known motions and skeletons but since the site is so slow at the moment I am too lazy to dig that thread up. XD Nice Day Nomido PS.: I hope you know that there are more then one emote in a file and you have to know the right number where you export and import your emote. |

Think you could direct me on the basic tutorials first though on importing and exporting? This tutorial doesn't show you how to get started. :/

It is possible to transfer NPC animations to PC animations (emotes) but you have to realize that the motion, due to SE coding, has Total Frame allowed restrictions. Some animations that NPC's use are 130+ Frames where as some emotes PC's use are only 30-90 Frames. You need to then Edit the Frame amount and Skip rate to match as close to the original or you will end up with an emote that moves extremely fast or slow. Additionally to the Weapon weights some can use simple weight transfers from the old animation to the new one, but others that have a wider motion range (Character spins around etc) are not as simple to do. I've not worked on Motions in a while, but the link above explains most of the easy stuff. The larger movement range I'm talking about isn't explained, but not many work on motions that have the type of range I used to do...and I never released a finished product either (aka I never figured it out how to get weights to work with the larger motion range). Pick of what I mean: Last edited by Rashia; 07-03-2007 at 09:37 AM. |

I have tried that, but when it comes to motions there isn't just 1 x, y, or z axis. When you go to a motion there is up to 3 of each for every motion. Saying to delete Y or Z doesn't help me if I don't know which one(s) I need to delete. Been working on the motion for several months and every change I've tried up to now hasn't been what I wanted. Spent most of today already deleting various Y or Z axis to see if I could get the effect I want but to no avail. If I could get even one Main and Sub weapon done most the others I could just copy/paste then I'd just have to do weapons that are attached to the back of character (Gaxe, Gsword, Staff, Scythe). Just frustrating that out of all the places I've checked I can't find any examples of what I need to exactly do and most my trial and error attempts just end in more frustration. Just can't seem to figure it out.... Last edited by Rashia; 07-04-2007 at 10:35 AM. |
