Random testing consept
I was wondering if it would be possible to emulate ffxi not the whole game more like create an area and load in mobs I've been kicking around this idea for sometime what if it was possible to load in mobs in a blank area that one could experiment with test out possible gear equips as well as try new strats. on BCNMs HNMs ect.. I'm sure someone would say the flaw in this is you wouldn't be able connect to ffxis severs also you wouldn't be able to properly test killing things because you would be the only one able to play and my idea doesn't have room for a full LS to try to kill AV at least without having others connect too your PC. It was more for trying to solo HNMs without risk of loss

Re: Random testing consept
Cool, and all that in 2 phrases!

I think this goes in the direction of private servers. This is as of yet impossible as far as I knew. I do know people have managed to go to other servers, by giving the FFXI Server a different area-loading IP address.. So you could zone from Bahamut's Valkurm Dunes to Shiva's Konschtat Highlands, for example.
Windower once talked about a "tool", of people being able to visit eachother in their Mog Houses. But it never got public because it was too much like hacking.

You can't hear giant gasps for air over the internet ... unless you're using something like TeamSpeak

Re: Random testing consept
No. This "CONCEPT" would be a private server, which would be nearly impossible, and illegal.

Re: Random testing consept
No idea what it is that Nur was trying to say there, but to tack on what Arctic was saying, yes this seems a lot like private servers.

On that subject, I will say that I have heard rumors of somebody (I don't know who, so don't ask) developing private servers. From what I hear, they're also a decent way into it. Zoning is possible, but it's done manually (you must type in a certain code when you zone). Basic movement, etc etc. I can't remember if monster creation was completed yet or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's done by now.

As I said, it is just a rumor, and I have no idea who is doing this, where you could find information about it, or if it's even true. So take it with a grain of salt.

Re: Random testing consept
Last I heard about someone developing a private server was that it was a scam, and all the people that installed the software/handed over their IDs to help test the server got their accounts hijacked.

The only people who I imagine would have a sliver of the ability it would take to code a private server for FFXI from scratch would be the Windower Team, and I'm fairly sure they've said they have no interest in it at all.

Keep in mind, when a game has private servers, it's usually because they were made that way, or someone leaked the server code.

Re: Random testing consept
Yea, I honeslty don't see server code being made to the AMERICAN public from a japanese company.

The reason you see private servers for things like Ragnarok Online, and other korean/japense games is because the localization for these is easy, so is the server structure. With FFXI, you're dealing with an advanced server structure.

Re: Random testing consept
I do know of one being made, but not gonna tell you where, But it semi-works.

This topic needs to be closed.

And Inu, The reason you see so many Ragnarok Servers, is because, Orginally the first set of Server code was actually stolen source code, that was obtained, for the server.

But, I know of many many games out there, where Server code was developed from scratch, So its not in the least an impossiblity.

Re: Random testing consept
The problem is not actually with creating the area, we already got several programs that can read .dat files like ModelViewer, the real problem is that you will need alot of information that you don't have cept from the servers, everything like monster lvs, how they behave, how job abilities works and so on is hidden in the coding and nonaccessable.

Basicly it's like having an empty Earth with no physics laws

One Windurst to rule them all
One Windurst to conquer the others
One Windurst to find the others
And in mithraness bind them

Hmm, this seems kinda "gray area" to me, but I'll agree that this thread should at least be closed. Discussion about this type of application isn't allowed on this forum. You might find a better reception elsewhere.
