Custom resolution

Okay, so I used to have a standered sized monitor, with a 1024x768 resolution, but recently I got a widescreen 1680x1050 which is the highest possible resolution most things support, and my problem is even with the graphics on the highest for FFXI, it looks.. bad? Worse then it used to, anyway. Can anyone suggest what I can manually reg edit my res(graphics resolution) to, for it to look how it should.. and explain how. XD

Re: Custom resolution

Well, first you probably have to set the aspect ratio correctly.

Menu > config > Misc 2 > Background Aspect ratio.

Had already done that. It's not like the size is distorted, it's more like the quality of the graphics. It almost looks like the middle setting instead of the highest. ; ;

Re: Custom resolution

Then the next step is Enabled higher resolution on background textures. Game looks amazing. Look to see how

Except to add to those instructions, you would need to edit keys 001 and 002 as well as 003 and 004. Now it seems that 003 and 004 should remain as a square (2048x2048), its 001 and 002 you need to alter to keep the x/y screen settings the same ratio as your screen. So for instance if you wanted to run at 1680x1050 you would set 001 to 1680(decimal) and 002 to 1050.

Now if you keep the resolution that high, one you're going to need a good video card, but two, you might need to bump 003 and 004 up higher. 4096x4096 might be needed to keep the faux AA look, but that is going to require a lot of memory (system and video memory)

Re: Custom resolution

I use MogToolz. It doesn't do anything you couldn't do yourself with registry editing if you're comfortable with that, but it provides an easy, friendly interface for editing your various stored graphics settings, and has some additional features like storing multiple configurations so you can easily switch if for instance you use a lower set of settings for dynamis.
