As I had previously mentioned before (and there's alot of people asking me about both my future projects, and FFXI DAT files), I hadn't updated anything with me because I was caught up in college work.

Well... due to certain events, my college time is now freed up and I'm able to work on my website, www.Devimension.com (est. Fall 2001) once again.

I remodeled the introduction page so it looks halfway decent now. And I was grapping with the people who provide the hosting services for my website. www.powweb.com .

As you may or may not know, I'm going to be working to making more .DATs again, doing reports on very obscure video games (which curiously, most of them come from Namco.) and working on my Final Fantasy XI Pseudo-Anime Series (an Episodic Machianima, similar to Red Vs. Blue [Halo])... As well as Final Fantasy XI Music Videos, and fan art... and other stuff too.

In any case, I'd like some feedback on what you think of the title page to my website so far. Bear in mind, my site is still a work in progress. I just updated it Today after about a 2 or 3 year hiatus.

On a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think so far?

On a scale of 1 to 10? 10 being the highest, I'd give it a 9 hehe. I like the logo and flash title pages were always fun to me. The only reason I only gave it a 9 instead of a 10 is because well.. the Enter button doesn't work lol (I know it's not suppose to it). Either way it's really nice, and I hope reason or reasons your college life was alittle freed up are good ones. ^^

Seems to big. Took my PC a loong time to download it, and I have a pretty darn fast connection.

Maybe you should take each flash section by itself, make it loop, then use a php script to randomly load which one loads. Still multiple images, but also takes less time to load.

The changing page is an Okay Idea to a point...

Its painfull to have to sit and wait forever To load the page(s)

Well Just noted you Have one for Javascript Disabled and 1 for Enabled. (or so it seems i'm not sure other than had 2 differnt pages load)

Visually Its nice.

Load times Suck big time, Nothing wrong with having it look nice, but could still have it so that it can load fairly fast.

Know what your gonna say. Prob soemthing along lines of we don't cater to slower net users her eliek you told me once before. But goto any big site, even they don't take all day to load for slower internet users. And fact is alot of people still do user slower net because they have no choice. But The fact is also, you can have a visually great site, and still have it load fast.

1 Little Example the Flash Movie with changing backgrounds, That could be set into smaller chunks. One way by Seperating them, Say have one load each time a page is loaded, and then it could be random. And Peronally I htink that would be alot better than having them all come out at once one after another. Also if you didn't do it already, use as minmal frames as possible, and you could prob just invinite loop it, and make prob file under 200-500k chunks easily. Right now its 2.8m (Yow!!!!)

This are my opinions, but if you make it faster for everyone more people will like it.

Which is one of the reasons I don't like FFXIdats. Its way to bloated it can take over 5 min sometimes to load the bloddy page. When nothing is cached

well, I typically download at around 1098 kb/s, give or take depending on time, conditions, and server, and this site is still freaking slow =/

Actually, I was thinking about doing that before you said that, Kilandor. But I'm not exactly sure how to script something like that in particular. If you, or anyone else knows how to change the backgrounds randomly, I'd gladly do it.

Alternatively on QCDN, I got feedback more specifically on the fact that I used the textures surrounding the .SWF and saved them in .JPG format. They suggested I save them as .GIF format to dramatically reduce file size. I think I'll do that as well.

But yeah, like I said, if someone knows how to script something like that, I'd be more than happy to do it.

And on a side note, after taking the time to have a look see, I finally found out what was up with the .DAT file collection.

The host that I use? Powweb.com

Well, the server that my website (and other people's sites) were resting on was going to be shut down. Apparently, they MIGRATED my website to another server and some files got corrupted in transition (so I'd have to start from scratch, anyway). But the server is better now because they fixed some issues with the previous server. For example, the .HTACCESS file works now, so I can script a "404 Error" page.

I value everyone's opinion and input. Otherwise I wouldn't have asked anyone here.

As far as your idea goes, Kilandor, I'd be glad to take you up on the offer now that I have more than enough free time.

I wouldnt recommend them personally, but theyre cheap, so that's why i stay with them, but yep, the speed of their services is not the best in the market...

I like the look of your site, just a suggestion, use .png for your flash bitmaps, you can apply transparency and get rid of the jaggies of doom :-)

Is the site working by the way? I only see a intro page, cant click "Enter".
