How I added a GM glow to my weapons

I dont know if this has been discussed or what... I dont keep up with the conversations of how to add the GM glow effect to items BUT... Ive found a way to do it... I took a random weapon (in this case kadaaj great katana from the .dat file collection), and put it in place of my H2H knuckles, just because I got sick of using them... I noticed that one H2H weapon sat at the hip even though I changed the .dat for it. Which I would assume means that even though technically you only equip one... it treats it as being an offhand item, thus requiring two .dats for the H2H weapons. SO.... I changed the second H2H piece to the GM sword, and shrunk the sword to nothingness using meta. So now, whatever sword I use (as long as its in the H2H .dat file to trigger both weapons) has that effect. I also merged a few weapons to the GM sword and it also gave that effect, meaning... if someone were to give a GM sword or shield, weights of a piece of armor, then shrink it to nothing... the armor would have the GM effect. I would have done that myself but... I'm not THAT good with VRS yet... and I havent figured out how to set weights to armor properly yet. Anyways I just thought it was interesting, and maybe someone who knows a lot more than I do about setting weights might want to add that effect. I used it for a few minutes then got bored of it lol. meh. Anyways heres what the effects look like with no weapon in it. Well...bedtimes calling. i'll check back tomorrow lol.

Wow that's amazing.. When you wake up, can you please make some lighter pictures? Looks like your game is so dark. >.< If you would use Windower, you could press F11 to make the screen lighter.

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

Is this around weapon only, or entire body?

Previous successes with this (admittedly, I didn't pursue it as far as I could have) induced a full body glow.

It looks like it is around the "hands" only. Since he said the prospect of this occuring would be due to "shrinking" of the GM weapon. Is that correct? Maybe if he stretched the GM sword along the lines of his other weapon it woulc glow like that as well?

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

Hmm...You know the glow is possibly some type of "Material" layer in VRS, (the red squares) That has to do with reflections type things. It would have to be I would think...

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

sorry about the dark pics, it was night in the game, as for windower... sorry, I dont use that....or fraps. also the glow is exactly like when you equip the sword... it didnt change the effect at all when i shrunk it.... strangely, so i'm not sure WHERE it is in the boxes in VRS, thats why I just merged the stuff lol. Also I dont know anything on merging weapons to armor otherwise you could just merge an armor to the sword (cant merge the sword with the armor, or the effect dissapears as the sword takes on the properties of the armor, and not the armor taking effects of the sword. I think that if you got all the weights down for the armor... wrote them down, and then when you made the armor, a weapon and gave the armor all of its original weights again, that it would still move with the body, instead of as a weapon wouldnt it?.

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

Hm, that's interesting. In past instances, it was a body-wide glow, although the fact that you shrunk it so much may have had something to do with the glow being only on the hilt.

...

That being said, the glow is located in the master black box, not a material pane.

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

hmm.... so... is it possible to take that black box and add it to another weapon? like say move the whole part of that item to another weapon (if the other stuff has to go as well) and add the GM sword TO another? instead of adding things to the GM sword, and making it move like armor etc?

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

In theory, it might be possible... although I haven't exactly looked at it very hard. In the past there have been known issues with weapons gaining their typing from the master black box, and thus perform with incorrect animations unless using a box of the same type.

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

yeah... thats what I had figured ... I dont know much about what setting weights actually does... I'm assuming it gives it the coordinates of the piece that you set them as? ... but if it does, wouldnt that mean if you added armor (or a helm) to the GM weapon, and then set the GM weapon to have the ARMORS weights, that it would just sit there on the head like a helm?

Anyways just finished up a request for someone so, im posting the reply and heading out into the world for a while lol. porobably be back in a few hours if I'm lucky lol

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

The weights remain constant, but the animation set it chooses for attacks is determined not by the skeletal weights, but by the master black box, which therein lies the problem, since that's also where the glow is contained for the GM weapon.

Re: How I added a GM glow to my weapons

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it has to to do with "Effects" in VRS.

Now, I maybe mistaken, but the current version of VRS supports changing effects, it just doesn't have any Effects to choose from.

I'm not sure if there is an "Effect" Expansion floating around the JP Community, but I'm pretty sure having something like that would answer your question and make this alot easier to accomplish.
