.dat list

Ive searched this site as with others, and I know ive seen them before, and can not for the life of me find it again.

Does anyone have a complete listing of .dat files?

This includes the new dragons, CoP, NPCs including things like coffers and tress and such, and any of the newer items.

yeah I need to kow the .dat files for the menu curser and menus, I want to make a classic FF menu theme and cant find the .dat files -.-

however, I think it's for the JP client only as the menus and cursors are different for the NA/EU client (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

actually, after surfing around more, turns out you can use it. just have to put it in a different dat for the cursor (since they changed the dat location for the NA/EU client), rom\119\51.dat.

well I downloaded it, but I am alittle confused as to where it all goes....I need to apply the .DDS files to the .dat files, and it is not to clear on what goes where....could also be that it is late here and I can not think right now :p

7/13/05 ullg just found out that durning my file backup and transfer when I added my new HDD, my changeTex is corupt andI cant find it -.-

Disclaimer: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. IF YOU F' UP, SUCKS TO BE YOU. You can crash your game and require you to reinstall.

chat menu boxes(and the background for the other meun's)can be found in rom\0\.dat 14 to .dat 21

now dont edit 14.dat as this is also used as the main FFXI accept/decline ch selection screen backgrounds

there are 4 files in the menu .dat files

corner.dds (menu corners )
hfr1.dds (horizontal menu border)
vfr1.dds (vertical menu border)
newtex.dds(menu background)

these files are DX1(no alpha) .dds files if you save them as DX3 .dds files the engine will not display them correctly(you'll get a strip type effect with only every other horizontal pixel being rendered)so make sure you save them in the right format!

Now before you start injecting stuff into your menu .dat files fire up FFXI and have a look throught the menu theme's that are ingame already (config/windows/window type)

you will see that the are all blended/overlayed diffently some have a little transparency others have a blend gradient ect ect

now because we have no access to the FFXI shader file system(atm)the shader/blending effect of the menu you replace will be applied to your new menu textures (style 1 is 14.dat 2 is 15.dat and so on till 21.dat)
(i suggest at this point you back up rom\0\14.dat to 21.dat just incase)

Ok so your ready to start exporting/injecting your new menu textures

fire up changetex.exe and click on the .... button to browse for the .dat file your going to edit(i used 15.dat for my soild black skin and 16.dat for the blended gradient black )

open the .dat file and you'll see the 4 above files that make up the menu

click on the file you want to export to highlight it then click the DDS.. button to export it,type it the file name and save it,do this till all 4 of your textures are exported

now edit your textures how you see fit(remember save as DX1 no alpha/no mipmaps)

if you closed changetex rerun it and reopen the .dat file you exported from earlyer,you will now import your edited files back into the .dat file

highlight the file you want to replace and click the ???? button(this is the import file button)browse for your edited menu texture and click open

you should get a popup box that show's sucess with the file name of your new texture repeat untill you have all 4 menu files replaced with your new textures

fire up FFXI and alter your config/windows/window type till you see your new menus Smile your done


now if you want to change the cursors those files they are in rom\119\51.dat
replace the files anc anc.dds & anc btwait.dds(these 2 need to be saved as DX3(explicit alpha) ) for the 2 menu cursors and buttonto(another DX1 .dss)for the main menu buttons

That should just about do it for menu editting any ?'s let me know and i'll try and answer them asap

I hoped this guide helped and when i get chance after my isp move next month i'll try and get a full html guide with pic's and links to all the utilitys you'll need for this

thanks ofr the great walkthrough, but lol I still cant find change Tex...the original website that had it does not work

update: lol never mind I am just being stupid today, found it and working on changein the menus now :p
