Food for DNC

Hi Guys,

I am thinking to level dnc as a job, however i find it confusing when comes to food (opps... forget to let you know, my game character is an Elvaan). So accuracy for Elvaan is like a long lost friend... because we miss a lot >.<!

I would like to have some advise as to what type of food is good to use, as I have been reading on guides DNC need to have CHR, DEX and AGI. Should I actually use Sushi or Tazavinia Taco?!

Anyone please help me !!!!!

At the moment, My dancer level is 20!

Re: Food for DNC

If I feel like I need an acc. boost on Dancer, I usually go for Tuna Sushi. Not sure if that is the best, but I've found it to be reliable enough.

Re: Food for DNC

Yup, Tuna Sushi's gonna be your bread and butter for a long time. You need to land your hits for your Sambas to remain effective, and you need to be able to land your Steps. Your damage added to the party isn't your number one concern for the most part, it's your buffs, debuffs, and healing that matters. Make sure you can do at least some damage, so you gain TP, but don't fret if you don't do a lot overall; you're not a DD, but a support job.

Re: Food for DNC

I don't know if I'd bother with sushi at level 20, but if you're going to use sushi, Tuna is the way to go. At that level, if you're really pressed for accuracy, you might be better off with Rice Dumplings or even Jack o' Lanterns. Yes, the jacks are -10 CHR, but the most that can take off Curing Waltz I is 3 HP, and that can be balanced with gear swaps. It might be a worthwhile trade-off, since that is the only thing you need CHR for.

Re: Food for DNC

My DNC is 22 and I had been using Jack o'lanterns. they are around 2-3k but give 10 ACC and 10 Evasion for 3 hours.

Re: Food for DNC

TBH, by 20, there isn't a lot of gear that a Dancer could throw in to offset the -10 CHA hit from jacks that they wouldn't already be wearing anyways. While agreed, CW1 doesn't really get much better with more CHA (besides, the other half of all CW equasions is the receipient's VIT), the later ones do, and by noticeable bounds. By the time you get CW2, you should be moved on from jacks to tuna. The CW line soft caps much higher than normal Cures do, from my experience, so CHA is never a bad thing to turn down, but always hurts to take a penalty to.

Re: Food for DNC

@.@ you're all dead wrong.

Sushi is a waste at the lower levels because you don't have enough base accuracy to get the most out of it yet. Jacks are OK when soloing, but in a PT the -10 CHR will really hurt your waltzes.

People here should know I'm a strong advocate of using meat in the lower to mid levels and that's what I'm gonna say again.

Food Effects Guide - Final Fantasy XI - somepage.com

Bookmark that. It's a great food guide that sorts out foods based on level progression.

At 20 you shouldn't yet be at the cap for Mutton but it's the best attack food you can get with a whopping +27% attack up. Plus, it lasts for 3 hours (Juicy Mutton if you can get it goes for 4 and caps a little higher) so you don't have to worry about it wearing off unless you get killed

Also don't believe the Elvaan accuracy mumbo jumbo. ZOMG we have low dex o noes, losing a whole 6 accuracy to mithra by lv 75!

What are you using as a SJ? I'd strongly recommend either DRG or RNG subs at least until 24. If you find yourself taking hate too much by 24 then /NIN is OK but dual-wielding for the sake of it isn't going to help your TP gain as much as 10 more attack and a free hit every minute 30.

Re: Food for DNC

Meat is great and I fully support it...

...on a DD job. Which Dancer is not. At. All.

A Dancer, to maximize effectiveness, is absolutely concerned with accuracy first, then pushing at least enough damage through to get TP for each hit. While at 20, yes, normally sushi is a waste, but for a Dancer, not much out there really gives the kind of accuracy they need to land hits and steps consistantly, food or gear wise. Meat, while great for boosting damage, means nothing if a Dancer can't land hits, and even worse, Steps are notoriously inaccurate in the lower levels (eat meat without enough acc gear, and you can kiss any chance of ever landing any Step goodbye; the key terms are "enough acc gear." Trust me, by 20, you'll never have enough acc gear). Steps don't even do any damage, so why waste meat on them? Steps are what a Dancer will spend roughly half of each fight doing anyways.

This is the one time I have to argue against meat; it actually does hurt effectiveness. If you wanted to pump out the big numbers with daggers, Thief is the job you're looking for. Dancer isn't about the big damage numbers. It's about cures, buffs, debuffs, and looking pretty while doing it. To do any of that, it first needs to hit.

SIDE NOTE: Yes, /DRG at 30 until 60, then /SAM until the End of Time or /NIN at 70 and when you get Joyeuse is a solid career progression for Dancer. Beyond that, you're not going to find a SJ that'll provide anything worthwhile for a Dancer.

Yeah, honestly, everything I said was based on the thought of "Well, if you're really having ACC problems..." I went with meat into the 30s for partying.

You're right. I haven't been to that site since that password stealer trojan was floating around out there earlier this year. Is somepage even being updated anymore?

Re: Food for DNC

I used rice dumplings until 30 with no issue as far as needing sushi. Once 30 came along I used sushi because along with my natural acc and acc boost trait it worked well to keep my hits landing.

Reason for dumplings til 30 was that it provided me with 5 acc + 3 str + 2 vit + 1 agi + HPh 1 + MPh 1 + 17 HP + 20% att + 30% ratt and resist paralyze. It's a great all around food for low lvl jobs that melee for any purpose.

Sorry but meat is very useful on dnc, esp at lower levels. You can have all the acc in the world but it won't do you any good if you hit for 0. At level 20 he'll more than likely be fighting Crabs not exactly a very evasive mob but definatly a defensive one.

Re: Food for DNC

Also, I think it's misleading to say that dancer is not a DD job "at all". It is not *entirely* (or even mostly) a dd job, but it's a part-dd hybrid in the same way that cor is, IMO.

The design of dnc certainly tilts the acc/atk balance in favor of more emphasis on acc than what would be ideal for a pure melee DD, but that doesn't keep sushi from being crap at low levels.
