Introduction of the Whip?
Hello All,

I believe the introduction of the Dancer into FFXI is the perfect time for SE to include the introduction of the Whip. Thinking about common weapons in RPGs, one doesn't usually think "whip!". But, it is an established weapon, and one I think is being sorely missed in FFXI. Let's think of appropriate weapons for the Dancer... Knife, nah. Sword/Staff/Scythe/Club/Hammer, nah. It needs something. We don't want the dancer to just get the scraps of BRD weapons either, it needs a real weapon! I hope/vote/like/want the Whip to come to FFXI riding of the Wings of the Dancer Goddess. Now, lets consider it... Yes, a whip would go very nicely with that AF... Yes, a whip would look very good with dance moves. Yes, a whip goes very nicely with a Dancer all around. Let me know what you think.

I think you're thinking of the wrong kind of dancer....

Seeing as they've already shown videos of dancers in battle, I highly doubt that they'll add a new weapon class for one job. I believe the only other weapon type usuable by one job is the katana by ninjas, and I personally find that a pain. By adding a whip it would just be one more weapon skill to cap.

I would expect more of a baton type dance move (like a staff of sorts) to be added before adding something that would only be joked about. Too many Striper jokes about dancer already, we don't need to add dominatrix jokes in with the mix.

Baton! I like that. Ya know, the dominatrix thing didn't even cross my mind... I still think Whip would work well with Dancer. And, it might even work well with the pet jobs, if you think about it.

On a serious note, at fan fest last year, the AH had three additional slots under "weapons", but they were blacked out. Hopefully SE just didn't have time to add those weapons, and we'll be seeing them this time around.

Although I'll feel kinda sorry for addenak if they add more weapons.

I'd really like to see the Taru SMN whipping Diabolos to attack. Kind of like Ninja 2hr...yet different.

I meant baton as in more of a staff. I'd much prefer the expansion jobs to use weapons that already exist. That way I don't have to skill yet another weapon.

...so giving a Dancer a pole would result in less jokes then giving them a whip?

Personally, the only weapons I could see a dancer using would be Daggers or one handed katannas. And if they were to add a new weapon class, I think some sort of Ring weapon, like a hand held Chakram, would be a better idea. It wouldn't require new attack animations and could make for some nifty WS animations.

I've got it! Bracelets. They'll have Bracelets that can equip in the weapon slot... And they'll flail their hands around when using them.

Whips were always the weapon of choice for dancers, but as we saw in the WotG trailer (and on the website) they clearly use daggers for their primary weapon.

While I think a whip would be totally awesome, I don't see them adding that in. Then you have to figure in what other jobs might equip it and all the people rushing to skill up their Whip skill (LOL that just sounds funny!) and I just don't see it happening.

I could see some seriously cool animations with a dancer and a whip, in my mind. But I doubt it will happen.

And I, too, lol'ed at the "wrong kind of dancer" statement.

whips would be great. I would like to avoid daggers, there's enough THFs as it is wielding those. ya a new weapon class would provide something new to skill up and a new style to have fun with.

but I like the Chakram/ranged weapon idea, personally I think bracelets would be cool but instead of hitting with them, their animations involve movements that release damaging close range waves of energy that cut enemies.

I think Dancer should still have decent selection of weapons they can use, especially knuckles if people want an alternate option to an assassin style (dagger), but ya the best addition would be new weapons Dancers can use. whether its whips, some type of large ring, double bladed baton, or tazer.

I would actually like to see chakrams used as close-ranged weaponry. It fits the whole Dancer theme to it... sorta.

I mean, dancing around while slashing with these things would be awesome! (Yes, those belong to Xena.)
