Crafting to suit my jobs

Was wanting input on which crafting skill would be best suited for me if I wanted to make decent gear for my BLU,NIN,PUP,BLM and some of the ther jobs. I logged in today and got the matierials for making a doublet set for my lvl 11 BLU and Iwas amazed that at lvl 5 Clothcraft iwas able to make the whole set with out breaks. Now I have lvl 40 WW already butgetting tired of WW and want to be able to make gear that I can actually use for my lower lvl jobs. Not looking to profit just really looking for craft that will save me from having to go a purchase armor and weapons for the lower lvls.

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

Well, Clothcraft, obviously. You can make Bone (level 16) and Beetle (level 21) gear with Bonecraft and Leathercraft. And you can make Chainmail (level 24) with Smithing and Leathercraft. If you really want to make your own stuff, those skills should cover you. But to me it seems like an awful lot of work for stuff you can buy pretty cheap on the AH.

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

most of the sets you just mentioned I already have. just want a craft that with help me more than Woodworking has cause I rarely ever lvl a job that uses bolts or arrows and my nin is still lvl 10 so I wanted to do a craft that will get me armor for when I start to lvl all my other jobs.

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

Well, in your OP you asked for help with lowbie gear. If you're looking for help in another way, you should have asked for it.

There aren't really any crafts you don't already know about that are going to help you especially much in the lowbie levels. Maybe if you want to level crafts so you can make all your NIN tools? Or perhaps cooking or alchemy for consumables?

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

I am a level 10 Monk and I'd like to know of which craft I woud benefit the most. I think that for instance smithing is not for me, since I can't use swords and stuff, but does that mean I should leave smithing altogether? What about cooking? Is it true that the drinks are MP-related?

Thanks for any replies!

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

I'll give you a tip: Crafting your own armor is a pipe dream. Taking equipment-centric crafts high enough to make worthwhile armor with it will take so much time and money that you'll pretty much have to be 75 already to do it. Equipment-centric crafts also require significant investments before they even start being profitable.

My advice? Forget about all of that. And if you really want to level up a craft anyways, go into cooking or alchemy. They're much cheaper to level, and since they deal in consumables, it's easier to find a profit recipe.

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

Thanks for your reply Armando. I found the Alchemist's Guild in Bastok, but I can't seem to find the Guild for cooking (what's it called?). Does anyone know where that is?

Thanks again!

Cooking Guild is in Windurst. Don't ask which zone, I can't remember lol. Look it up on www.ffxiclopedia.org just type cooking in the search engine.

So not all nations have all the guilds? Why is that?

Not enough space most likely, and they wanted some to be country specific. For example Bastok is known for its smithing, so they have not one but two smithing guilds (Goldsmithing and Blacksmithing) they are also well known for Alchemy. San'doria is well known for Woodworking so they have a Woodworking Guild as well as the Leathercraft and a smaller Blacksmithing Guild than Bastok. There's also a Woodworking guild on the Sandoria side of Carpenter's Landing. Windurst is well known for wind Weaving, Cooking, and Fishing and have all three of those guilds. There is also a Fishing Guild in Bibiki Bay and a I think there is a Weaving Guild in Selbina (Isn't there a fishing guild in Selbina too?) In Aht Urgan I believe all of the guilds are represented with Guild Synthesis support, but they don't all sell goods. There is also a pretty large Alchemy guild in Aht Urgan as well.

All this is off the top of my head since I can't access wiki from where I am but it should be pretty close to about 90% accurate.

Re: Crafting to suit my jobs

Thanks for the info Durahansolo. Seems I have to stick to Alchemy from now on. I signed up yesterday and my first "mission" is to find a Tha...-something cactus...right...something I've never heard of. I can't find it at AH either. Anybody know what monster I have to slay for that?

<<<Doesn't know what you are talking about. Only cacti I know of are Cactus Stems (Item used to make distilled water I think.)and Cactuar (the mob). Also don't take what the guild says to heart about "You have to concentrate on X skill to do it (Where X is the name of the guild.)." You can take all crafts to 60 at any time and you can only have one craft at 100. Once you get a craft to 60 there are 40 more skillups that you can craft to one skill to reach 100 or that you can spread out among all crafts that are level 60. That may not make sense because I can't really explain it well.

Say you have
Alchemy 60
Goldsmithing 60
Smithing 60

You can do this
Alchemy 100
Goldsmithing 60
Smithing 60

or

Goldsmithing 100
Alchemy 60
Smithing 60

or

Smithing 100
Goldsmithing 60
Alchemy 60

Or you could do something like this

Smithing 80
Goldsmithing 70
Alchemy 70

which also = 40 extra points.

Tahrongi Cactus? That has nothing to do with crafting.

Actually, it does. You can use it in conjunction with the ultra-rare lightning crystal to create extremely valuable distilled water.
