Clothcratf, but why Leathercraft?

Hi guys

I've asked alot of my friends to do synthesis for me. They would say "I also need <whatever number> in Leathercraft to synthesis this item". Could someone please explain to me why they need Leathercraft as well? Thanks so much for all explanations.

Higher lvl synth items require skill in multiple crafts to make them. Think of it like its almost real. If you wanted a bullet proof vest today, the makers have to use many different types of materials to make them: plastic armor, glue to hold it together, and the cloth holds it on your torso.
Most armors have cloth, leather, and even some metal in them. You have to be able to work with all three in order to make the comlete product.

If you want to check lvls of stuff go to ffxi.allakhazam.com and they have lots of synths, the required ingredients, and the required lvls for most of them.

Okay so the only reason people say "Need leathercraft" just means they need it to make some of the items?

Well, I also think you need leathercraft too is because there's some dual skill synths out there. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Oh, I took it as you have to do 2 separate synths, for example...

XXX Robe:

1x Sheep Leather
2x Square of Linen Cloth

I thought they were saying you had to make the sheep leather, and I was saying you just need it, no matter how you got it.

It means you need to have leathercrafting SKILL also (not just materials). For example, Scorpion Harness, the crafter has to have around lv69 bonecrafting and lv44 leathercrafting. If the crafter has too low a leathercrafting skill, they will fail, even if their bonecrafting is 100. Let's say you make that with 42 leathercrafting (your bonecrafting can be a little lower or anywhere higher)... you have a good chance of gaining skillup for leathercrafting from making scorpion harness up to a cap of lv44.
