<<I posted this in a fishing forum I requent but wanted to open the discussion here as well.>> After capping wood at 80 I leveled Alchemy to 60 for the obvious ink related reasons. Then I noticed I can make quite a bit of Shihei relatively cheaply and sell 6k to friends and 7.5k-8k in Jueno (per stack). Recently an ls mate asked me to HQ a heavy crossbow (70 wood). Thats when I caught the 'Uber Crafting Bug' lol. I traded in my remaining 6k fishing guild points for robber rigs (nobody ever mentions this as a moneymaker) and switched to woodworking guild. I used some of my fishing savings and bought 4 stacks of Oak lumber then proceeded to make Cabinets to 80.7. The cabinets sold amazingly well in Jueno at 25k each which netted a profit of ~5k each or 60k total. Off to a good start! Now I couldn't give up fishing for too long, so I bought 4 Mithran rods, 6 stacks of meatballs (which I felt was equal to my fishing skill), several stacks of light crystals and hit the Ferry. It took me about 4 days at 2-3 hours a day to break the rods and synth them. When it was all over I obtained 83 wood and lost 5 mithrans. Ok, now what? I looked at recipes up to the 87 range and didn't see anything I liked that wouldn't break me let alone yield a profit. Ermite's wand seemed like a possibility but I couldn't find any Hermit's in stock. Then a good RDM friend of mine complained that she couldn't find any Mystic Wands. That sounds like wood so I looked it up. Sure enough it caps at 84 and sells ok in Jueno for a little less than break even. Looking further again I could not find anything appealing until I ran across a post that said Kabura arrows were good to level on till 91. The catch? Boneworking must be 53 and you need a high level smither to do the Arrowheads. I look at my skill status and see I am 4 boneworking, hehe. So thats where I am atm. I am powerleveling bone to 53. I have paid about 150k in crystals, bone chips, sheep teeth, and beetle jaws to get to 23.8 and I have enough materials to get to 25 (bettle ring cap). I tried to farm but I can make more fishing nebs so I am biting the bullet and spending the gil. Why? Well, I will have 53 bone which is decent and I will be able to make Kabura arrows! I plan to craft Mystic wands 3-4 at a time until I hit 84 then synth with guild support placing me at 86. I will be in the 5 level range for the 91 capping arrows which hopefully will diminish critical failures. I didn't mention that I happen to have a good Dark friend that is also 74 smithing (he makes a killing from backplates) so he will skill to 79 on the arrowheads I need and I can get them at cost. After 91 I have a plan and it is: Divine Lumber to 92 Bookshelf to 95 Divine Sap to 97 Cythara Anglica to 98 Then I'm stuck ; ; Ox Tongues require usage of an Adaman Ingot ; ;. I am not sure what SE is thinking here with such a high level smithing requirement. My guess is that my 34 smithing will not be high enough. I can probably get goldsmithing to the gold level in an ok fashion though. I guess the good news is I have plenty of time to figure this out!! The reason I do any of this is to be able to make massive amounts of Shihei, sweet HQ items such as Staves and Bows, and millions of gil. If you are a high level woodworker and want to discuss your chosen paths and/or have any tips please share ^^ May your days be filled with non-critical failures! |

can try synthing mega pumps to 84 and mythic poles up to 89 if you don't want to PL bonecrafting. (maybe desynth these for ancient lumber back? possible) divine lumber+sap... you're kidding right? I wouldn't touch these for skilling up. Divine log is like 2-3 mil a piece. failure = no more crafting for a month. ![]() Make eight sided poles, and work on lancewood lumbers/Cythara Anglica. its much easier on the wallet and its the path i plan to follow once i hit 80 on my woodworking except I'll be doing kaburas up to 91 instead of mythics since I almost have boneworking pu to date. |

Oops on the divine logs. My fault I didn't look until last night after I hadposted from work. Definitely not a good idea to skill on something that is sold out and the last one sold for 1.7 million ; ; Eight-sided poles is the best choice, thanks! |

if you plan on being useful on anything other than HQ staves (which you need a goldsmithing buddy for anyway, something which I don't have heh) then maxing bone/smithing is a must, wouldn't hurt to max goldsmithing either (though you can just go up to the range where you can make what you want to make). Most of the ranged items require sub bone or smithing. kaburas are great, save up your cash and just buy the things whenever arrowheads and wings go on sale. bamboo can be store-bought in san'd among other places. megapumps are good to 84, decimate the supply of coeurl whiskers in your server and you're good to go. you may want to check the price of armoires in your server as well; these willt ake you to 49 gold and ~90 wood (forgot the exact cap), and may sell for a profit depending on the price of ebony on your server. just don't expect to sel lthis as a business: when the synth fails it'll take the profit from 4~5 armoires with you. from 95->96 you can do laquer sap; price may seem high, but the fact that you can make urushi out of it will negate this: cytharas are good for selling to NPCs and not much more. 98->99 and 99->100 you don't have much of a choice; pick whatever that pleases you. Just be glad that adamans are now a BC drop and have dropped in price; i'm 1.5mil in debt but I've stocked up on 4 stacks of adaman ingots while the prices dropped. i mean hey, woodworking might not get me any money but i got it up this far (96.3 or something atm i believe), might as well take it to the finish. |
