If I wanna be a Crafter... what Job is best ?

Since School has started for me and my play time has been severly reduced I was wondering if anyone would recommend a job that is advantages for crafts? I would think THF would be obvious as with TH/2 it might be easier to aquire self farm materials, but I don't claim to be the expert in such things as it might be more advantages to play a job that is better at gathering the more high end components where crafting becomes more expensive. So I'm looking for some opinions from some of our more gifted crafters

Thanx

I think you were very right in thinking that THF would be a good job for crafting.. if i could do it all over again i would become a THF, Just because of the sheer amount of gil they can make at lvl 60+ (picking oztroja coffers /drool) >.>

Ditto and ditto. THF is hands-down the best IMO, not only because of TH, but when moving a crafter you need to be -defensive- sometimes, and Flee, PD, and Hide are excellent at keeping you alive. NIN subjob complements that very well, because 1) people like for THF to have a /nin sub 2) you gain even more defensive abilities like Utsusemi and Tonko.

If you are in smithing/logging/harvesting for your goods, these defensive abilities all make it much easier to gather these things in areas where you would normally be too low of a level OR if you are footing it to another city or through a rough area you are much safer.

Another good utility job for a crafter is WHM/BLM. Of course WHM has chock-loads of defensive abilities, but mainly for travel. Teleports (you have your sneak and invis:p), Warp, and Escape are really handy for getting you around, when you need to get to another guild or visit another AH for better pricing options or more materials. You ~can~ get around the travel aspect almost completely just by having multiple mules, but it slows things down when you are handling large quantites of goods (send 8 items, log off, log on to mule, get items, log off, log on to main, send 8 items...) and for some people it's just not worth the money for another content ID.

So, hope that helps.

RNG might help you find the elementals but its kind of a painful loss using arrows to try and kill them. Especially when you need to get Fire, Light, Dark, or Ice Elementals. A BST might actually work better for that part.

I do very well farming my items as a DRK/THF. In some places, I have non-stop farming. Killing, then find a mob that gives good HP and MP, then Drain & Aspir them until I'm ready. Battalia is great for me. I can farm Tiger Fangs for quests, crab meat and salt for making Boiled Crab. I just make sure I go and do this when the moon's about 75% or higher.

When it's a Full Moon, I go hunt for Cockatrice Meat, and make Mithkabobs. I made 8 stacks of mithkabobs on our most recent Full Moon. Sold them all in Jeuno for 3.3-3.5k a stack. They sold fast as well.

So I've done a lot of farming for my Cooking and my Clothcraft. You can also farm your way to about Lv.20 Leathercraft as well. Farming in LTP and Tahrongi Canyon.

And don't forget Gardening for some of your needed items. I grow wild onions and Mhaura Garlic for mithkabobs, you can grow crystals, moko grass for Clothcraft, Flax Flowers for Clothcraft as well. Various nuggets can be grown as well. I grow Platinum Nuggets for profit, some grow them for their synthing. So there are a number of ways in which to get your synthing items. Investigate which ones work best for you.

Yeah, I shouldn't forget about BST

Just the raw power of the job compensates for the lack of all fore-said abilities and traits.

Best farmers in the game (imo) are THF/RNGs for TH2, widescan, flee, etc. Even though RNGs get access to higher level widescan than a THF could with a subjob, from what I can tell Wide Scan 3 at 40 was not much of an upgrade from widescan 2 at 20. Only problem I really see is no way of claiming mobs via provoke, shadowbind, dia, etc. But if you're farming with widescan and flee, grabbing a mob isn't too difficult considering most likely you won't have much competition in the immediate area to take your pull.

being rng myself, i believe thf/rngs are better farmers.

TH2 (3 with thief knife), coffer picking, widescan, and ability to sub war for those NM pulls.

no other job can sub /war without penalty to farming ability.

If you really want to farm, you'll need to go bst/thf. Mobs later on have unreasonable amounts of HP, and even if your thf main's a high level there's a limit to the damage output. The damage formula for PC's and mobs are different; mobs do tremendous amounts more damage when there's a large level difference between the mob and the player. This same idea applies to BST pets, be it wild or broth. This way you can do, for example, 200+ dmg per hit vs the cocatrice in onzozo using toramas. the attack delay is also like that of a middle-speed 1hand sword. No other job can singlehandedly exterminate the cocs in onzozo before repop begins (smns maybe, but they're also limited by their MP).

Of course, you'll have to spend 300~2000 pet pet depending on the level if you have to use a broth pet, and these will last for either 30 mins or till they are defeated. pets won't last all that long if you fight mobs that are fairly close to your level either.

VS easy~decent mobs though, it's still akin to having a DRK that swings a little faster @ the higher levels; if you're farming with a group, you're speeding up kills tremendously, while if you're a thf you're contributing TH2.

The choice is yours, but level up thf anyway because either way you'll need to raise it as a sj.
