So today I was synthing some tools for my ninja while in an xp party. I'm aware that your synthesis will fail and you will lose all materials if you are synthing while you zone (on a ship) or if you get hit by an AOE.

Well it happenned today that while I was synthing these materials, the WHM cured me (as is typical between battles ) and I got the same message! My materials were lost! On the off chance that I was hit by an AOE from another party (though the nearest one was far away) I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences, or if this was infact, due to the WHM curing me.

I really hope that such is not the case... I hope that I was hit by an AOE and it caused my synth to fail. The thought of anyone with healing/enhancing magic to be able to interrupt synths is incredibly disturbing O_o Just imagine:

Crafting a Sniper's Ring.
XXX casts cure on crafter.
Archer's ring was lost ;_;

You would think Square would take measures to prevent things like this, but then, my faith is not always with S-E, so if anyone knows of this, feel free to share your thoughts here.

It's possible if they begin casting on you before you kneel to synth. And yes, ANYONE can do it.

I was under the impression that they disabled spells being cast upon single people, but it seems that -ra spells from the whm affect everyone in the pt and thus, still hit you forcing you to lose materials >.< But yes, it use to be that you could just run around casting cure/protect on anyone crafting and they'd lose all the materials. That's why you normally never see any high lvl equip made, cause it's always done in the MH for safety purposes. *edit* i guess that is true if they start casting before you start synthing =/ that should be fixed also.

Actually they disabled the Ra-spell thing, same with songs.

If they start casting after you kneel then your synthesis won't get interrupted.

Before on the other hand... goes right through. Also, you can't cast on people while they're synthing so it'll have to be someone spamming cures on you so you can avoid it pretty easily by just flipping them off and going to your MH.

Well, I guess that's somewhat of a relief to know... definately something to keep in mind for expensive synths. Naturally I agree that it should be fixed, scary O~o

Fortunately, it was only a shihei synth, so nothing very expensive was lost. Still sucks though.

To all you crafters out there, keep expensive synths in the privacy of your own home if you want to be safe~ to all you mages, be mindful of casting on crafters ;_; please.

Nope, MH synth is 100% OK ^^b

I do it on my items all the time, right after getting synth support + warp

It seems like there's a very narrow window from which a Synth can be "you lost all items and crystals."

I was walking to Sandy from the Dunes the other night. I had saved a few people running from Orcs and Goblins and was down to 7HP as a WAR18. I bought some supplies out side the AH, and decided I'd just synth them there.

A nice RDM12 decided to help me out, I guess. I was in Sandy, I was in no danger of death, so he cast Cure on me like 9 times. 11HP restored each time.

Well the 1st Cure was just as I kneeled for my synth, and then I got that message. Good thing it was something really cheap, and it was a crystal I had farmed myself.

But there have been other times I tried to cast on somebody else, not noticing they were synthing, and it just told me I couldn't cast that at that time.

So there still appears to be a window of "you're screwed" with your synths.

This happened to me on.... Sunday I believe.
