| Senior Member Brass Ribbon of Service | Rusty Caps/Padded Caps...
I plan on skilling up smithing and making some money fishing up rusty caps and crafting Padded Caps. I know your smithing skill should be about 27+ to synth these, but what fishing skill do you need to catch them? The advice I got was to use a Mithran Rod and a Rogue Rig in Rabao. At level 10 fishing, will this work? Thanks. Also, does anyone recommend against this? Are there any drawbacks that I don't know of?

I don't think you need any skill to catch rusties. The only drawback to this is buying Light Crystals, prices have gone up alot in the past month. Other than that, this is a good way to make money, some people wish for SE to nerf this whole idea to sell padded cap 2.7k (I think?) each to an NPC. If you want to catch more Rusty items you need a lot of Mog enhancement Fishing.

Thanks, ya, I forgot that he also mentioned that I should get a moghancement fishing item. He said get an item with water property, but dont use rusty bucket, as its not enough. Knowing my luck, I would get my smithing up high enough and SE would nerf this Light crystals are getting really expensive, but even at 600/crystal, you still make good profit.

It cost quite a lot to get Mog-Enhancement fishing at the highest possible, I heard 100k about there. It's a lot of investment to catch rusty caps, and synthing them to padded caps....but it's well worth it. You can make your money back in about a week catching the caps. Right now I'm catching moat carps for my Lu-Shangs (up to 1600) |

I don't know anything about fishing (except that it's boring as hell) and I don't know how the fishing moghancement works, but I do know a thing or two about smithing, and let me tell you, rusty caps are the golden levels. You can start these as early as 25/26 if you wish-- quite a few failures, but fast skillups. Unless you wait til 30 to start restoring these, here is what you need to do: Wherever you catch the caps, hang on to them. Once you've caught the desired amount, go back to your moghouse and switch to moghancement: light. The best way I know of to do this is to buy white jars from Ensasa in Windy Waters. Depending on how much other furniture you have layed out, five should easily get you the light moghancement. Get the adv. support and go craft them. With light support I lost caps only about 1/4-1/5 of the time I failed, and at 25 my success was roughly 50%, which turns out to 1 or 2 rusty caps lost per skill level, but much less failures and losses as the skill goes up. These take you all the way to 34, but no further ;_; and I recommend them all the way. |

O_o 14.5K?! That's outrageous! Well, you definately won't be making money off of rusty caps with those prices (unless your caps are going for like 1000 each) Light crystals average 8-9K a stack on my server, and I've heard that on some servers, they go for as low as 3K a stack (evidently some people have tons of mules which they use to turn dark crystals into light crystals with gardening)
