Fishing is cheapest to start with.

Smithing can be raised with more or less break even up to 22 or so skill. Past that you start losing gil.

You can make a good 10-14k profit per RL day synthing iron ingots into iron sheets at 22 smithing skill, assuming you can get 2 sales of a stack of them per day. Though you need atleast 30-40k gil liquid to be able to do it, since a stack of iron ingots costs 30k gil.

As a 66.2 Smither I can only give advice from my personal experience.

You can make very good profits from 1-25.

Once you hit 25, its like someone just walks up to you a slaps you right in the face and keeps doing it non-stop until you hit 50.

You will lose 500k between 25-50 unless you are extremely lucky somehow and your server's economy works in your favor.

At lvl 50+ you can start making Darksteel stuff and then you can start making profits.

Smithing is a metalcraft like Goldsmithing, and it is VERY tough to level.

You should start with fishing and stick with fishing. That will be the most profitable.

at lvl 8 fishing i can go to rabao and catch 5 stacks of moat carp and sell them for 4k each, then have 20k to level up my cooking ^^. Pretty good if you ask me.

and if i ever need money all i do is go back to rabao, and fish until i have enough to buy my equip. parties like people with good equip =D

I prefer mining, I usually just go to Yughott Grotto since its very close to San d'Oria, only took one stack of picks, but ended up with 3 darksteels, one red rock, 5 irons and 2 zincs. A very nice profit.

I just started about 2 months ago. I currently have about 200,000 gil and am only a level 10 Warrior in Bastok.

I found an item that sells at an item shop for 48 gil, I buy 12 of them for 576 gill. I then sell the item at the AH for 1200 gil.

The best way to make gil, is to find an item that is in great need, figure a way out to get it cheaply and then sell it for a profit.

For example, I farm fire crystals on the Vomp Hill near Bastok. I takes about an hour, but I can usually get three stacks in that time. (Oh yeah, I forgot to say, I also use my Red Mage on Vomp Hill. If he gets to a point where he doesn't get experience [and therefore crystals], I will have him killed until he drops a level.)

I then go to the Smithing guild and produce Bronze ingots.
Bronze Ingot = (Fire Crystal + 3 Copper Ores + 1 Tin Ore). The cost is about 60 - 90 per ingot. I usually can produce a stack for less that 1k. I can sell a stack for 4k to 5k. That's 3k of profit. I know, my level in smithing doesn't go up while producing ingots after level 2, but it's still a great way to make money to craft higher level things.
